⚠️ DID YOU KNOW? Electrical Cable Colours in Malaysia Have Changed
If you are planning a home renovation, office fit-out, shop renovation, or any electrical upgrading works, please take note that the colours of electrical wires used today are different from those used in older installations.
This is because the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) has introduced a new electrical cable colour code to align with international standards.
📌 What does this mean for you?
✅ New installations will use the updated colour code
✅ Existing buildings may still contain the old colour code
✅ Electricians and maintenance personnel must be familiar with both systems during repair, maintenance, or upgrading works
✅ Proper identification of cable colours is important for safety and to avoid wiring mistakes
📅 Implementation timeline (important)
🔹 From 1 January 2026
Both the old and new cable colour codes are allowed for:
New electrical installations
Additional wiring works (extensions)
Renovation or modification of existing electrical systems
🔹 From 1 January 2029
👉 All electrical wiring works must fully comply with the new cable colour code only
⚡ Why this matters
Understanding the correct cable colour system helps improve safety, prevent wiring errors, and ensure smoother maintenance in the future.
