THE MATHEMATICAL ICEBERG - YOU JUMP, I JUMP!
A coordinate changes by a few centimeters or even meters, but beneath that number lies a much deeper story of reference frames, epochs, plate tectonics, and mathematical transformations. The boundary monument may remain exactly where it has always been, yet the coordinates can change as our geodetic reference systems evolve.
If you and your surveyor friend both jump to a new reference frame, your coordinates might both shift by +0.5 meters in N/E. But here is the kicker, the distance between you does not change.
The mathematical transformation is conformal, it preserves shape and distance. So while the numbers on your screens scream "we moved!", the physical tape measure between your two monuments remains perfectly constant.
However, in reality the geometry changed, the actual spatial relationship on the Earth's surface refused to budge. That is the hidden beauty beneath the Iceberg. Coordinates are just numbers; but the geometry is reality.
