Setiap bilik darjah ibarat sebuah bot yang sedang belayar. Guru adalah pemandunya, dan setiap murid di dalamnya berhak mendapat peluang untuk belajar, berkembang, dan berasa selamat. Tetapi kadangkala, keengganan seorang murid yang berterusan untuk bekerjasama boleh mencetuskan gelombang yang menjejaskan semua orang lain.

Guru yang hebat mempunyai hati yang besar. Mereka cuba membantu setiap anak, termasuk yang paling mencabar sekalipun. Namun kebijaksanaan mengajar kita bahawa membantu seorang murid tidak boleh sampai mengorbankan keperluan ramai murid yang lain. Kepimpinan sebenar adalah tentang mengimbangi kasih sayang dengan tanggungjawab.

Ini tidak bermaksud berputus asa terhadap murid yang sukar. Ia bermaksud mencari penyelesaian yang menyokong mereka sambil masih melindungi pembelajaran, kemajuan, dan kesejahteraan seluruh kelas. Setiap murid penting & bukan hanya yang paling lantang, paling mengganggu, atau paling menuntut.

Sebuah bilik darjah yang berjaya dibina apabila rasa hormat, akauntabiliti, dan pembelajaran dikongsi oleh semua. Apabila pilihan seorang individu mula menghalang pertumbuhan semua orang lain, tindakan yang diambil bukanlah hukuman dan ia adalah perlindungan untuk kebaikan bersama.

Guru yang paling kuat bukanlah mereka yang menyelamatkan seorang murid walau apa pun kosnya, tetapi mereka yang membantu jumlah murid yang paling ramai untuk terus maju sambil tidak pernah kehilangan rasa kasih sayang mereka.

Dan seperti yang diingatkan oleh gambar itu, seorang kapten yang bijak tidak akan membiarkan seluruh bot hanyut ke dalam bahaya hanya kerana seorang penumpang enggan mendayung.
