Centrifugal Fan Acoustic Enclosure

A great week for Team ISTIQ at ALCOM!
Our crew just wrapped up the installation of an acoustic enclosure for their centrifugal fan — and yes, it involved climbing, lifting, balancing, and plenty of teamwork (plus a few “don’t drop that panel!” moments 😄).

Safety was our number one rule throughout the job. Harnesses on, helmets tight, communication constant — everyone looked out for each other from start to finish.

And the best part?
We successfully reduced the fan noise from 95 dBA to 70 dBA. A quieter, safer workspace for the client — and a very happy customer.

Noise Performance FAT – Berantai East Acoustic Canopy

Yesterday, our team completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the Acoustic Canopy designated for the Berantai East platform, with the main focus on validating its acoustic performance. The test involved detailed sound measurements around the John Deere genset, and we are pleased to share that the results were highly consistent and well within the required limits. (Photos attached)

Using both our standard instruments and a new Svantek Sound Level Meter on trial, the measurements recorded an average internal genset noise of 100.1 dBA and an impressive 79.6 dBA at 1 metre from the canopy, giving a noise reduction of 20.5 dBA. The canopy passed all acceptance criteria, and the data collected from the Svantek device provided excellent clarity for verification and cross-checking. A solid outcome for our team and another step forward in delivering reliable offshore acoustic solutions.

We recently completed a targeted acoustic enclosure installation for a shaker machine in a bearing manufacturing facility. The machine previously produced noise levels of around 90 dBA. By enclosing the primary radiation point — the discharge section — using a high-mass steel housing combined with internal acoustic absorption, we expect the noise level to drop to below 82 dBA.

This solution reduces airborne noise, improves operator safety, and supports compliance with occupational noise limits.

Noise Control for Compressor Room.

The project was carried out at Sunway Medical Centre Pharmacy, involving the installation and acoustic treatment of a compressor room housing two units of Atlas Copco screw air compressors.

Prior to treatment, the ambient noise level in the area measured 54 dBA (without compressors running). When the compressors were operating with the original door in place, the noise level inside the room reached 61 dBA.

To address this issue, comprehensive acoustic treatment works were implemented, which included upgrading the wall insulation and replacing the existing door with an acoustic-rated door.

Following completion of the works, the noise level during compressor operation was successfully reduced to 54 dBA. This confirms the effectiveness of the acoustic solution in mitigating compressor noise and ensuring compliance with the required noise comfort standards for the healthcare building.

For a recent power plant project involving a 70 tph boiler, our engineers carried out an Insertion Loss (IL) measurement on the exhaust gas silencer. This process measures the reduction in noise levels when the silencer is installed, ensuring it meets stringent acoustic performance requirements.

Using a calibrated omnidirectional source, precision microphones, and systematic baseline vs. with-silencer testing, we provided transparent, verifiable data — witnessed by our client.

Despite the harsh environmental conditions, including heavy dust accumulation and restricted access within the plant area, our team executed the installation with strict adherence to safety protocols and engineering standards. The acoustic enclosure was designed to significantly reduce noise emissions while allowing adequate ventilation and service access for maintenance activities. Special considerations were given to sealing, filtration, and airflow management to ensure the enclosure performs effectively without affecting the blower’s operational efficiency. All work was carried out professionally and completed on schedule, to the full satisfaction of the client. The client has acknowledged the quality of workmanship and the enclosure’s effectiveness in noise reduction.
