🌧️✨ An Easter Blessing in Every Drop ✨🌧️

This Easter brought something truly special… not just rain, but a little moment of magic.

Our specially designed laser-cut African penguin rain gauge stand arrived just in time to greet the very first drops. Almost as if it knew… it stood ready to “chat” with the rain as it gently fell — a quiet celebration of life, renewal, and blessing. 🐧💧

And today, after the rain has passed, it finds its place — installed, standing proudly, a beautiful reminder of yesterday’s gift.

From the first drop to the final installation, it feels like perfect timing… a small but meaningful Easter moment.

Grateful for rain.
Grateful for beauty.
Grateful for the little things that make a house a home. 🌿

🐧💙 Things You Might Not Have Known…

A 110-year-old man became a lifeline for penguins.

Alfred “Alfie” Date, once recognised as Australia’s oldest man, spent his final years in aged care quietly knitting tiny woollen sweaters for little penguins affected by oil spills along Australia’s coastline.

These small jumpers helped wildlife rescuers keep injured penguins warm — and prevented them from swallowing toxic oil while trying to clean their feathers.

What started as a simple hobby became a powerful act of conservation. 🧶✨
A reminder that no matter your age, your kindness can make waves.

Sometimes saving the world looks like knitting one tiny sweater at a time. 💛🌊

🌸 Feite oor die pragtige Amarillas (Amaryllis belladonna) 🌸

Almal se Amarillas blom nou in hul volle glorie — van sagte pienk en wit tot diep magenta,rooi, geel, koraal en selfs Oranje.🌺
Hier is ’n bietjie meer oor hierdie geliefde bolplant wat elke lente se tuine vul met kleur en vreugde.

🌷 Oorsprong:
Die Amarilla (Amaryllis belladonna) 🌸kom oorspronklik voor in Suid-Afrika (veral die Wes-Kaap tussen die Olifantsriviervallei en Knysna) en ook in dele van Suid-Amerika.

🌿 Kenmerke van die Amarilla:
✅ Blomtyd: Vroeg in die lente tot in die somer — en as jy vroeg plant (tussen vroeg en middel Oktober) kan hulle selfs tot met Kersfees blom. Beskerm hul net teen Namibië se warm son as eers in Oktober plant.
✅ Blomme: Groot, trompetvormige blomme wat tot 22 cm in deursnee kan wees. Sommige variëteite dra tot vier blomme per steel, maar ek het al gesien dat een tot agt blomme op ’n enkele steel gedra het!
✅ Blare: Interessant genoeg verskyn die blare gewoonlik ná blomtyd – ’n unieke kenmerk van hierdie plant se groeisiklus.

🌸 Enkel vs. Dubbel Amarillas:
🔹 Enkel Amarillas het die klassieke ses blomblare en ’n elegante, trompetvormige voorkoms.
🔹 Dubbel Amarillas het veelvuldige lae blomblare wat dit voller en meer “blom-in-’n-blom” laat lyk. Hulle blomtyd hou ook gewoonlik langer aan, want nie al die blomme op die steel maak gelyktydig oop nie.

Daar is groot variasie in dubbelvariëteite – byvoorbeeld:
✨ Aphrodite en Dancing Queen het smal, effens gedraaide binneste blomblare.
✨ Nymph het kleiner binneste blomblare wat baie ooreenstem met die buitenstes – ’n pragtige, sagte voorkoms.

💖 Of jy nou van die enkel of die dubbel hou – die Amarilla bly een van die mees betowerende lente-bolplante in enige tuin!
