🌊⚓ Restoring a Little Piece at the Sea... One Shell at a Time 🌿🐚
Two years ago, I had the privilege of transforming these two old dinghies at Lüderitz Nest Hotel into living sea gardens. My dream was to create something that belongs to Lüderitz – where the ocean, plants and creativity meet.
Over time, the plants grew beautifully and rewarded us with colourful blooms. Then, as every Lüderitz resident knows, the famous east wind arrived. It damaged some of the plants and scattered many of the shells that formed part of the display.
But something wonderful happened...
The little dinghy next to the playground became a favourite with the children. They collected the shells as little treasures and even used the thick rope for games of tug-of-war. It was impossible to be upset because the garden was doing exactly what gardens should do – bringing joy and creating memories.
Today I returned to give these special dinghies a little love again. 🌼
I planted new Foxtail Agaves and colourful daisies, carefully put the rope back into its original place, and filled the shell displays again. While I was busy restoring them, even adults stopped to pick up a shell as a keepsake from Lüderitz.
That reminded me why I started this project in the first place.
My dream isn't simply to plant gardens. It is to create living spaces that tell the story of our coast, celebrate our natural beauty and inspire people of all ages. With the Atlantic Ocean just beyond the boundary wall, these dinghies have become a true Sea Garden – where nature, creativity and the spirit of Lüderitz come together.
Every shell tells a story. Every plant adds life. Every visitor leaves with a memory.
Sometimes the smallest treasures create the biggest smiles. ❤️
