It doesn't rain but it pours! Yes, this is our Rukonga Vision School at Divundu, and yes, the school building flooded this morning. No, it is not the roof leaking. What you see in the video is stormwater from the entire school site flowing into the courtyard space between classrooms.

Why did it happen? We discovered that a stormwater outlet was blocked, and that the contractors on site (building a new extension), stockpiled excavated materials on the other side which also diverted run-off into the school courtyard.

Yes, we are on it. The contractors are getting instructions to lear the blockage, remove the stockpiles and to do a diversion channel.

Nature isn’t a guest in the city. Nature is infrastructure.

Cities have to stop treating it as decoration and start treating it as essential urban infrastructure, just like roads, drainage, and electricity.

When we treat nature as a foundational system, everything shifts:

🌧️ Wetlands become flood infrastructure, absorbing stormwater and protecting neighborhoods.
🌳 Urban forests and tree canopies become cooling networks, reducing heat stress and making streets walkable.
🌿 Green corridors stitch together fragmented ecosystems, supporting biodiversity and offering safer, shaded public spaces.
πŸ’§ Restored rivers and riparian zones become natural drainage channels, reducing the burden on engineered systems.
🏘️ Nature-based solutions in informal settlements reduce risk, improve health, and make upgrading more climate-resilient.
πŸ§‘β€πŸ€β€πŸ§‘ Communities become stewards, co-designing and managing green spaces that strengthen identity and social cohesion.

It’s climate adaptation, public health, risk reduction, and urban equity β€” all supported by natural systems that work better, cost less over time, and restore life to the city.
