WHEN BUILDINGS COLLAPSE, WE MUST ASK WHY.

The recent building collapse incidents in Umuahia have left many residents worried and saddened. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

A building doesn’t usually fail because of one single mistake. In many cases, collapse is the result of one or more of these avoidable issues:

❌ Poor structural design
❌ Substandard construction materials
❌ Inadequate site supervision
❌ Ignoring soil and foundation conditions
❌ Failure to follow approved engineering standards

To curb future collapses in Umuahia, Abia State should mandate soil and geotechnical tests as part of the requirements for building permits. This will help ensure that every structure is founded on proper ground conditions and built with safety in mind.
