A few days ago, our team carried out a Groundwater Geophysical Investigation in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, using the PQWT M400 Multichannel Water Detector to locate the most suitable groundwater point and determine key aquifer parameters.

The PQWT M400 gave us a detailed picture of the subsurface geology, identifying the aquifer depth and thickness, water-bearing layer resistivity, and the most productive groundwater zones. This is the science that guides every decision before a single drill is deployed.

Geophysical investigation is not an option. It is the foundation of every successful borehole project. It eliminates guesswork, reduces the risk of drilling failure, and ensures that every project is backed by data, not chance.

Reach out to us today for your groundwater survey and borehole drilling needs.

YOU COULD BE SITTING ON GOLD!

Somewhere in Nigeria, a man inherited land from his father. For years, he farmed it, built on it, and called it home. He had no idea that beneath the same soil his children played on, the ground was holding lithium , one of the most sought-after minerals powering the global energy transition.

He is not alone. Across Kogi, Nasarawa, Zamfara, Niger, Kaduna, and states in between, land that looks ordinary on the surface is quietly holding some of the world's most valuable natural resources. Gold. Lithium. Tantalum. Iron ore. The Nigerian Geological Survey Agency has confirmed lithium deposits in the country grading as high as 13 percent lithium oxide, well above the global exploration standard of 0.4 percent. A mineralisation track nearly 10 kilometres long was discovered close to Abuja, with gold, silver, lead, and tungsten all present.

The wealth is not the question. The question is: does anyone know it is there?

This is where Geophysical Mineral Exploration and Soil Geochemistry become the most important tools a landowner, investor, or mining company can deploy.

Geophysical mineral exploration reads the earth's physical properties from the surface without disturbing the ground. Magnetic Surveys detect iron-bearing minerals and map ore formations underground. Induced Polarization surveys send electrical current into the subsurface and identify the distinct response of gold-bearing sulphide minerals. Electromagnetic surveys trace conductive anomalies that point to lithium and tantalum concentrated in pegmatite formations. Every method generates data. That data, properly interpreted, tells you exactly what is beneath your feet and how deep it sits.

Soil Geochemistry goes a step further. For millions of years, buried ore bodies have been dispersing trace concentrations of their elements into the soil above them through weathering and geological movement. By collecting and analysing soil samples systematically across a site, we detect those geochemical fingerprints. Gold leaves pathfinder signatures. Lithium-cesium-tantalum pegmatites produce rare metal enrichment patterns. Iron ore reveals its extent. The result is a map, drawn by science, showing where mineralisation is concentrated and where every naira of drilling investment should go.

The difference between a landowner sitting on wealth and a landowner who knows they are sitting on wealth is one geophysical survey. The difference between an exploration project that succeeds and one that wastes millions is one soil geochemistry report done right.

At AAPS Geotech Hydro Limited, this is the work we do. From survey design and field ex*****on to data interpretation and technical reporting, we give investors, mining companies, and landowners the subsurface intelligence to make decisions with confidence.

The minerals are already there. The science exists to confirm them. The only thing missing is the right team.

Subsurface Intelligence: How We Investigate What Lies Beneath

Before a borehole is sited, before a foundation is designed, there is a question that must be answered first: what is the earth hiding underground?

At AAPS Geotech Hydro Limited, we do not guess. We investigate.

Our team was deployed to Osun State to conduct a Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) geophysical survey as part of a groundwater investigation project. VES is one of the most trusted non-invasive methods for understanding what lies beneath the surface, and it works by measuring how different subsurface materials respond to electrical current passed through the ground.

Our field team drove current electrodes into the earth and progressively expanded the electrode spacing, allowing us to probe deeper and deeper layers of the subsurface. The resistance readings captured at each spread length were recorded using a purpose-built resistivity meter, giving us a picture of how electrical resistivity changes with depth. That data becomes the foundation for interpreting whether an aquifer exists, how deep it sits, and whether it is viable for drilling.

What looks like wires on open ground is actually a conversation with the earth. Every measurement tells a story: where water-bearing formations begin, where clay seals the surface, where fractured basement rock might yield a sustainable water supply.

This is geoscience in action. Grounded in data. Guided by expertise.

AAPS Geotech Hydro Limited delivers subsurface investigations that give your project the right information before the first drill hits the ground.

HOW TO FIND WATER WITH PRECISION?

Groundwater geophysical investigation is a critical first step in ensuring the success of any borehole or water development project. Rather than relying on guesswork, this method uses scientific measurements to study the subsurface and accurately determine the presence, depth, and productivity of groundwater aquifers.

The equipment deployed for this field measurement is the PQWT M400 (Natural Electric Frequency System), a geophysical instrument that works on the principle of electrical differences in the natural earth magnetic field (frequency 0 to 30kHz). It records variations in electromagnetic frequencies at various depths to study underground material and geological changes.

Since different materials such as clay, sand, and fractured rock have distinct resistivity, conductivity, and density values, this method allows experts to identify zones most likely to contain water. It minimizes the risk of drilling dry or low-yield boreholes, saving both time and financial resources.

Beyond water exploration, this technique also contributes to geotechnical and environmental assessments, providing valuable insights into soil stability, depth to bedrock, and subsurface structures essential for construction and foundation design.

Groundwater geophysical investigation is about precision, efficiency, and informed decision-making. It transforms uncertainty into clarity, guiding projects toward successful outcomes with data-driven confidence.

Here is a step-by-step guide to using a Digital Multifunctional Tester for measuring pH, EC, TDS, ORP, Temperature, Specific Gravity, and Salt.

Phase 1: Preparation Before Testing
Collect a fresh sample from a consistent depth. Rinse the probe with distilled or deionized water. Check the immersion level before you dip.

Phase 2: Taking the Measurements
Submerge the probe and wait up to 2 minutes before powering on. Stir gently to remove air bubbles. Wait 5 to 10 seconds for the reading to stabilize. Cycle through: pH, EC, TDS, Salt, SG, ORP, and TEMP. Record each result.

Phase 3: Calibration
Meters drift over time. Calibrate with pH buffer solutions (4.00, 7.00, 10.01) and a standard NaCl solution for EC/TDS/Salt. Use the Reset function if needed.

Phase 4: Maintenance
Rinse with distilled water after every use. Blot dry gently. Store capped and slightly damp to protect the glass electrode.

Quick Reference
Drinking Water: pH 6.5–8.5, TDS < 500 ppm
Swimming Pools: pH 7.2–7.6, ORP > 650 mV, Salt 2500–4000 ppm
Hydroponics: pH 5.5–6.5, EC 1.0–2.5 mS/cm

Precise water data drives every sound hydrogeological decision. At AAPS, we bring the right tools, the right technique, and the right expertise to every investigation.
