Since we moved into this compound over a year ago, my husband and I have been the ones pumping water for everyone. There are three apartments in the compound, and we've been carrying this responsibility alone.

The funny part is that we haven't had NEPA light for over a year, yet every tenant has a generator. The people in the last apartment have a small generator that can’t power the pumping machine which is understandable, while the people in the middle apartment have a big generator just like ours.

They can run their generators for hours, but they will never pump water. They simply wait for my husband to do it.

Sometimes we buy fuel, pump water, and within a few hours the tank is empty because someone leaves their tap running and forgets to close it. Yet nobody apologizes or contributes.

My husband always tells me to ignore them, so I've kept quiet.

But how can someone live in a compound for over a year, use water every single day, and never not even once buy fuel, pump water, or contribute a kobo?

You wake up every morning, brush your teeth, have your bath, wash your clothes, cook, clean, and flush your toilet with water you didn’t pump or contribute a penny…

Now he’s away, and the water finished for more than 24 hours. None of the other tenants made any effort to pump water.

Yesterday evening, I had to buy one litre of fuel to pump small water and even beg the man who sells provisions on my street to help me start the generator because I had clothes to wash and grains to wash and soak for pap…

This morning, I woke up and there wasn't a single drop of water left.

When I stepped outside, I saw that the woman in the middle apartment had washed so many clothes that all the drying lines in the compound were occupied.

Tell me, is this not wickedness?

You couldn't contribute fuel, you couldn't help pump the water, you waited for someone else to do it, then you used almost everything without considering the person who made the effort.

At this point, I'm losing my mind😠. I asked the husband why they don't use their own generator to pump water.
Do you know what he told me?

"He said pumping machine dey spoil generator”😡… I almost run mad but I just said okay and left.

Abeg what’s the best way to handle this type of neighbors? Because I can’t take this anymore 😩
