BEDC, DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT PARTNER TO FAST-TRACK POWER RESTORATION TO AFFECTED COMMUNITIES.

The Management of BEDC Electricity Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Delta State Government to restore electricity supply to communities currently experiencing outages across the state.

This assurance was given by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of BEDC Electricity Plc, Engr. Jonathan Lawani, during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Delta State Government in Asaba to address pressing challenges affecting power supply in Kwale, Ndokwa, Isoko, and other parts of the state.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, said the gathering was organized to deliberate on critical issues impacting electricity supply in Kwale and adjoining communities, with the aim of charting a practical and sustainable path toward resolution.

According to him, the prolonged outages in Ndokwa Nation have generated significant concern among residents, leading to several peaceful protests both within Delta State and in Abuja.

> “My people, the Ndokwa people, have demonstrated severally within the state and Abuja over the lack of electricity in Ndokwa Nation,” the Deputy Governor said.

Sir Onyeme appealed to BEDC to restore supply to Ndokwa, Isoko, and other affected communities, emphasizing that residents were not demanding uninterrupted 24-hour electricity but would greatly appreciate any improvement in supply.

> “I am not saying that BEDC should give us 24 hours of electricity. The country is currently addressing challenges in the power sector, and the little you give them will be appreciated. They will reciprocate by paying their electricity bills promptly,” he stated.

The Deputy Governor also commended Engr. Lawani for his leadership, noting that his administration has positioned BEDC as one of the leading electricity distribution companies in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Delta State Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Matthew Anoka, described Delta State as a major shareholder in BEDC and stressed the need for accelerated deployment of prepaid meters to improve customer confidence and enhance revenue collection.

He urged BEDC to strengthen its metering programme across the state, saying that effective metering remains critical to ensuring transparency and reducing customer complaints.

Responding, Engr. Lawani expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for maintaining a cordial and constructive relationship with BEDC over the years.

He noted that the meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, reflected the strong partnership between both institutions.

> “Delta State has remained one of the most peaceful and cooperative states within our franchise area. We sincerely appreciate the support of the state government and will do our best to restore electricity supply to the affected communities,” he said.

Engr. Lawani explained that several technical challenges, particularly vandalism of power infrastructure, have significantly affected electricity supply to Kwale, Isoko, Ndokwa, and neighbouring communities.

On the issue of metering, the BEDC boss disclosed that the company plans to deploy meters to customers across Delta State under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP), a move aimed at reducing estimated billing and improving service delivery.

He added that BEDC remains committed to collaborating with the Delta State Government and other stakeholders to address operational constraints and ensure power restoration as soon as possible.

The stakeholders’ meeting is expected to further strengthen the partnership between BEDC and the Delta State Government and pave the way for lasting solutions to electricity challenges in the state.

Out of 2845 voters only 14 voted for CP in the primary. He better go and continue his bar and Shawama business or his bouncing job for Davido. You mean only 14 people out of almost 3000 people deem him fit? This a political
dis/grace. Even an Okada man in Owerri will get more voters ..
