Effect of Pocket Emotions Influencing Engineering Decisions in the Construction Industry.

In the construction industry, decisions are expected to be guided by technical standards, safety regulations, and professional ethics. However, a silent threat often creeps in which is pocket emotions. These are decisions driven by personal financial gain rather than engineering integrity.

When “pocket emotions” take over:

- Substandard materials may be approved
- Critical safety measures may be ignored
- Design specifications may be compromised
- Long-term durability is sacrificed for short-term profit

The consequences are structural failures, financial losses, reputational damage, and, most importantly, risk to human lives.

As professionals, we must uphold discipline, accountability, and excellence. Engineering is not just about building structures; it is about building trust, safety, and legacy.

At Adewale Matidi & Associates, we are committed to delivering designs and construction projects driven by integrity, precision, excellence and never compromised by “pocket emotions.”

ON SITE, ON POINT!!!

Every successful structure you see standing today was once just lines on paper and rods on the ground.

This moment (Picture below) captures what many people don’t see —
the thinking, checking, and collaboration that happens before concrete is poured.

On site, there are no assumptions.
Every measurement must speak.
Every detail must align.
Because in construction, a small error on paper can become a big problem on ground.

This is why:
🔹 We review
🔹 We verify
🔹 We cross-check

From drawings to ex*****on, excellence is not an accident — it is intentional.

As engineers, we don’t just build structures…
We build confidence, safety, and lasting value.

Building with precision. Delivering with integrity.

In the course of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work across both ends of the engineering spectrum—as a Site Engineer, and Design Engineer within a consultancy environment.

This dual exposure has given me a valuable perspective. I have observed that, Site engineers without appreciable design experience often struggle with interpreting drawings beyond surface level.
Design engineers without site exposure ends up to produced designs that are theoretically sound but difficult to execute practically.

However, when an engineer is exposed to both, the difference is clear.
A site engineer with design experience demonstrates deeper understanding, better judgment, and stronger attention to detail. Likewise, a design engineer with site experience produces more practical, efficient, and implementable solutions.
This combination leads to:
• Improved project delivery
• Reduced errors and rework
• Better collaboration among stakeholders
• Higher overall quality
Personally, I consider myself privileged to have gained this balanced experience, and I strongly encourage young engineers to seek exposure on both sides.

The most effective engineers are those who can bridge the gap between design intent and site reality.

I heard the price of Mangal Cement goes for ₦6000 while Dangote, Lafarge and others cement sells at ₦8000 to #9,000.
We need more investors in the production of cement so as to break the monopoly of the wicked producers.

Welcome onboard and please, don't join them.
