When a perpetrator is monitoring you, your devices, and your reactions, they are conducting informal malicious discovery.
They are trying to solve two specific problems.
Mapping the Evidence Envelope:
They need to know exactly what you have down, what digital files exist, and who you are communicating with. By watching your devices or intercepting your communications, they can figure out if you have a (like audio or if relies purely on testimony.
​Anticipating Your Moves:
Freedom of movement!
If they see via device monitoring talking to a specific professional, they will preemptively move to neutralize that source, but they will claim they did it through standard business practices or routine interactions.
​Manufacturing "Independent" Evidence: If they hear you mention a specific detail in a monitored environment, they will orchestrate a scenario where that detail is revealed "incidentally" or through a third party.
Clauses Like "I found this out entirely by coincidence from a mutual contact," hiding the fact that they stole the information digitally.
Digital safety demands understanding how technology helps, supports networks and it demerits which can be attributed to spies on your devices as well as users without owners consent.
