Last week, spent three days across our facilities in 📍 Lagos. The SBS factory. The production lines. The real process behind what goes into a steel building.
It was a good few days. Honest conversations. Sharp questions from professionals who know exactly what they are dealing with on site and in the .

⚠️ One topic kept coming back:
A steel building that says "loads by contractor" or "coating as per standard" is not a specification!

It is an open door 🚪
And in the Nigerian construction market, that door gets walked through more than anyone wants to admit.

🚫 Not always deliberately. Sometimes it is simply what the market has normalised. Vague language. Unverified grades. Coating weights left undefined. Surface preparation not specified. Structural bolts described as "standard" — which means nothing enforceable.

⚠️ The contractor prices what the document allows. And the document allowed everything.

So what does complete actually look like and that's what WE DO IN Sbslftz:

✅ ASTM A572 Grade 345 for primary structural steel. Not "steel grade as per contractor standard."

✅ AZ150 Aluzinc coating — not just "galvanized." The difference is 3 to 5 times the corrosion resistance. That gap is invisible at handover. It shows up years later.

✅ PVDF topcoat: top side 25 microns, back side polyester 7 to 10 microns.

✅ SA 2.5 to SA 3.0 shot blasting as per ISO 8501 before any paint application. Without it, even the best paint system fails from underneath — and no one sees it until the damage is serious.

✅ Structural bolts to ASTM A325.

✅ Design to AISC 360-16, ASCE 7-16, IBC 2018, AISI S100-16, AWS D1.1, MBMA 2018 — with specific editions referenced. Not "as per applicable code."

When a specification names these things precisely, two things happen:

📄 Every offer is priced on the same basis. And substitution becomes visible — not hidden inside a line that says "equivalent materials permitted."

🛡️ That is what protects the client. That is what protects the project. That is what builds structures that stand for 20 years and more.

🇳🇬 Nigerian construction deserves that standard!
