This are the good qualities of a good construction manager.
A good manager will:
Provide protection and political advice to
high performers who are at risk of making
external (or, possibly, internal) enemies
due to over performance.
Provide direction to average and low
performers, preferably with the goal of
making them better, and trying to find
work where they can be more productive.
Remove people who are negative in impact
and refuse or are unable to improve. It's
better not to fire them outright if they
might be productive somewhere else, and
the manager's job is to make sure that
these sorts of things generally happen on
terms that everyone can accept. Of course,
that's not always possible, but the
manager should try.
