Site Inspection and Consultation Fee

It is now becoming a habit for some clients to call many workers just to collect quotations. They don’t understand that the country is hard.

You leave your house, buy fuel or pay transport, go for inspection, measure, calculate, and submit a professional quotation. At the end, no feedback. No call. Nothing.

Our time, fuel, and experience cost money.

It is not wrong to charge a consultation or inspection fee. It is not wickedness. It is professionalism. Even if it is just to cover transportation, it shows value for your time.

Serious clients will respect it.

Your Circle Determines Your Level

Many painters don’t realize this; your circle in the industry determines the kind of jobs you attract.

If you keep working only with fellow journeymen, you will keep seeing small jobs. Small thinking produces small opportunities.

But when you start working with people handling well-structured and technical jobs, your exposure changes. You begin to understand standards, systems, and how big projects are executed.

Let me be clear; not every big project will pay you big immediately.

Sometimes, you are working for your CV, not your pocket.

That site experience, the pictures, the videos — they are not just content. They are proof of capacity.

And in today’s market, proof sells more than talk.

If you want bigger jobs, position yourself around people already doing them.

Your environment will either limit you or lift you.

Choose wisely.

Many contractors fail not because of lack of jobs, but because of poor payment terms.

Don’t rush to accept any condition just because you need the job. That same job can put you into debt if you don’t plan well.

Always protect your cash flow. A job without steady payment is a trap.

Option 1: Safe Standard
Net 30 days after invoice. Good for approval, but plan your cash well.

Option 2: Balanced Payment
50% upfront, 50% after completion. Helps you stay afloat.

Option 3: Structured Flow
40% mobilization, 40% mid-stage, 20% completion. Best for big jobs.

Option 4: Fast Payment
Net 14 days. Good, but not always accepted.

Option 5: Flexible Entry
Negotiable terms. Enter first, discuss later.

Don’t just win contracts, win them with sense.

Friending a child or house help in your client’s house is a breach of trust. When someone trusts you with their family and property as a painter, don’t use that trust for your selfish gain. It is wrong. You are there to do your job, not to take advantage of anyone.

If a home is given to you to work in, treat everyone there with respect like your own family. Don’t cross your boundary. Don’t get too close. Don’t try to exploit anyone, especially children or vulnerable people.

Be disciplined. Be professional. Know your limit. Your good name and future depend on your behavior. Always do the right thing.

In contracting, especially government jobs, there is something many people don’t talk about — settlement (kickback). Like it or not, it exists. Be aware.

But be wise.

Don’t promise what you can’t deliver.
Don’t over-commit just to win a job.
Always calculate your risk.

Many contractors price low and add heavy settlement just to secure the job. At the end, the project can’t carry it. They run into debt, deliver poor work, or abandon site.

A smart contractor knows:
If the job can’t carry the settlement, it’s not your job.

Before you price, ask yourself:
Can I still make profit?
Can I still deliver quality?

If NO, walk away.

Not every job is a good job.

If this is happening on the side of your house, don’t repaint. You will REGRET it. Read this first.

That peeling, flaking paint on the lower part of your wall is not a paint problem.

It’s moisture.

Rain splash-back, ground water, or trapped damp inside the wall slowly pushes paint off from the inside. That’s why it usually starts from the bottom and climbs upward, sometimes reaching window level.

If you repaint without treating it, you’ll waste your money.
The paint will peel again.

Here’s what to do instead:

1️⃣ Stop repainting immediately
Paint is cosmetic. It cannot block moisture.

2️⃣ Treat the wall properly
The wall needs a damp-proof treatment that penetrates and seals the surface, not just something that sits on top.

3️⃣ Use a proper moisture barrier system
Products like Costar 2K and Krystal Coat are designed to treat the wall itself — not just make it look good temporarily.

4️⃣ Let the wall dry before repainting
This step is non-negotiable. Painting over damp is guaranteed failure.

When this is done correctly, the peeling stops — permanently.

If your house looks like this on the side,
don’t guess. Don’t manage it. Fix it properly.

📩 DM me and I’ll tell you exactly what to use and how to apply it.

Repainting is cheap.
Doing it right is smarter.

When writing a quotation, always list each item by its name. It shows clarity and professionalism.

The moment you start grouping things as “miscellaneous expenses,” it raises doubt and stress in the client’s mind.

A self-explanatory quotation doesn’t need your presence for the client to understand. Know your onions well; call every item by its proper name.

Miscellaneous expenses in a quotation? That’s not the standard.

Painter Falls from Scaffold — Who Pays the Hospital Bills?

Accidents can happen on site, even when safety rules are followed. So, who should pay the hospital bills?

If a painter used safety gear, followed instructions, and worked carefully, then the painter should not pay alone. The contractor or site owner, who controls the site and scaffolding, should help pay the medical bills and support the worker.

But if a painter ignored safety rules, refused to use safety tools, or worked carelessly, then the responsibility should fall on the painter.

Safety rules are to protect life. Life comes first.
