A NEW ERA DESERVES NEW ANSWERS!

COVID-19 has changed our economic and social landscape. The Pandemic has exposed fragilities in our economies, deepening existing inequalities, and making the plight of the poor and vulnerable more visible. We require innovation and sustainability to "build back better" and accelerate the transition to a just and inclusive green economy.

Bamboo has the potential to lift thousands of people in Nigeria out of poverty. From a 'poor man’s timber', bamboo is fast emerging as 'Green Gold'. Markets are growing and offer new opportunities for promotion of bamboo as alternative to other products and elegant partnership to wood industry. Not only is it fast growing, sustainable and eco-friendly, bamboo can be processed in different ways to be used for a huge variety of industrial and commercial products used around the world.

According to the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR), about 2.5 billion people across the globe use bamboo on a daily basis in one form or the other. The global market of bamboo was valued at $68.8 Billion Dollars in 2018 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.0% from 2019 to 2025.

Bamboo is a new economic force and a potential income generator for households and communities. Bamboo development will enlarge Nigeria's economic pie and contribute massively to the country's GDP. We are living in a post-oil world where there is an urgent need to identify viable alternatives. Bamboo is one of the alternatives to diversify Nigeria’s economy.

Community Development Centre for Bamboo and Rattan is organizing Bamboo Training for Sustainable Jobs, livelihood and diversification of income opportunities.

Register for the training and join the promising Bamboo industry

World Bamboo Day 2018

September 18 is World Bamboo Day!

This year's theme : Sustainability = Environment + Society + Economy

World Bamboo Day is a day of celebration to increase the awareness of bamboo globally. Where bamboo grows naturally, bamboo has been a daily element, but its utilization has not always been sustainable due to exploitation. The aim is to bring the potential of bamboo to a more elevated exposure – to protect natural resources and the environment, to ensure sustainable utilization, to promote new cultivation of bamboo for new industries in regions around the world, as well as promote traditional uses locally for community economic development.
