KARA Energy Systems KARA Energy Systems is a worldwide supplier of complete combustion systems for wood and other biomass.

Wood is a environmental neutral source of energy. When it is burnt, a certain amount of CO2 will be released, but if it is not burnt, the same amount of CO2 will emerge from the decaying process. Hence, heating by wood burning under optimal conditions is climate neutral and socially responsible. KARA supplies these optimal conditions, e.g. with its partner Siemens Turbomachinery Equipment, with installations for the generation of sustainable electricity with combined heat and power installations . With its 100 years of experience, KARA knows, like no other in the business, how to burn wood efficiently for heat production. The heat can be used for instance for heating industrial halls or greenhouses, but also the heat can be used for the generation of electricity for own use or delivery to the grid. That is why KARA installations are the answer to rising energy prices. A KARA energy system is delivered turn-key, and our engineers won’t leave before the installation is fully operational.

KARA will be at HEATEXPO 2026! 🔥
From November 24–26, we'll be back at Heatexpo in hashtag , Germany!

HEATEXPO brings together international experts and companies to exchange ideas and explore new opportunities in the heating and energy sector.

For KARA, it's a valuable opportunity to connect with the right people, meet potential partners and discuss sustainable industrial heating solutions.

During the previous edition, our colleague Akko Rattink shared why HEATEXPO is such a relevant event for KARA and the audience we aim to reach. 🎥

We're looking forward to another inspiring edition!
Will you be there too? Let's connect in Dortmund!

🌱 Dry or wet biomass? We can handle both.
Did you know that KARA can efficiently process fuels ranging from dry biomass to materials with moisture contents of up to 55%?

This fuel flexibility is made possible by our tailor-made approach. Every installation is specifically engineered around the available fuel source, ensuring maximum energy recovery and reliable performance throughout the system's lifetime.

Whether it's wood chips, straw, brewer's spent grain, cocoa shells, or other biomass residues, our technology enables valuable by-products to be transformed into sustainable energy.

"The variety of biomass fuels that can be utilized creates endless opportunities for industries looking to reduce fossil fuel consumption and make better use of residual materials," says Akko Rattink.

What if your production waste could power your production?

At this facility, damaged and rejected boards are processed into sawdust and used as fuel for the KARA biomass combustion system.

The result? Heat generated from their own residual stream, directly supporting the production process.

And the system? In operation since 2007 and recently upgraded.

Turning residual streams into valuable energy. That’s what we do at KARA.

A new biomass installation is on its way.

Another KARA installation is leaving our production facility in . Destination: , Germany.

Here, our technology will become part of the new biomass plant for MVV Enamic GmbH and Rubinmühle, turning oat husks from Rubin Mühle’s own production process into energy.

🌾 Oat husks as a local biomass fuel
🔥 Up to 5 t/h of process steam
⚡ 3.5 MW thermal output
🌱 Around 4,800 tonnes of CO₂ reduction per year

A great example of circularity in practice: using a production residue as a valuable energy source for the same production process.

After months of engineering and manufacturing in Almelo, the next phase now begins on site.

Next stop: Lahr. 🚛🇩🇪

Congratulations to PEFC UK Limited/PEFC International! 🌱🏆
We were proud to sponsor the 2026 TIMCON Sustainability Award, together with BES Bollmann Drying & Control Systems.

This year’s award went to PEFC UK, recognised for its contribution to PEFC International’s Circular Materials pilot project. An important initiative focused on strengthening circularity, traceability and responsible sourcing across the timber industry.

These are topics closely connected to what we believe in at KARA: making better use of available resources and building a more sustainable future for the wood industry.

Congratulations to the PEFC UK team on this well-deserved recognition!

A milestone in Lovech: Boiler House No. 2 is officially open. 🇧🇬🔥

Last week marked an important moment in the history of our customer Furajni Hrany in Lovech, Bulgaria.

Back in 2017, KARA Future Energy Systems installed the first biomass combustion system at their production facility, using straw as a renewable fuel.

Last week, almost ten years later, we proudly opened Boiler House No. 2, together with our CEO Robert Reinders, W***y Bijen and Arthur den Hartog, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bulgaria.

What makes this project special is the circular approach behind it. Furajni Hrany uses straw from its own agricultural land: a residual stream from growing the ingredients used in its cat and dog food. Instead of going to waste, this straw is converted into energy for the production process.

The result? A pet food manufacturer that has significantly reduced its dependence on natural gas, produces with a very low carbon footprint and has created an almost fully circular production process.

From growing ingredients to producing pet food and generating energy from the remaining straw. The circle is nearly complete. 🌾 → 🔥 → ⚡

A great example of how locally available biomass can contribute to a more sustainable and circular industry.

We are proud to have been part of this journey since 2017 — and even prouder to see the second KARA biomass system now officially in operation.

Congratulations to the entire Furajni Hrany team! 👏

Two KARA systems in production. 🔥
Two projects. Side by side. Both taking shape at our production facility in Almelo.

This is where engineering becomes reality. From steel construction and assembly to piping, controls and final testing, our team is currently working on two new biomass energy systems that will soon leave our factory for their final destinations.

Great to see both projects taking shape.
More updates coming soon.
