Bureau Fraai

Bureau Fraai Architectuur & Interieur For Bureau Fraai a successful project is not only about the concept or perfect spatial composition of a design.

Founded by Rikjan Scholten and Daniel Aw, Bureau Fraai aims to design and realize buildings in close collaboration with their clients and future users. The user experience is essential in their work and to achieve an optimal user satisfaction they think it’s important to involve the client as much as possible. It’s also about rightfully embedding the project within its urban, cultural and natural

environment and the conception on the smallest scale of the technical detail. As architects and product designers for their own design label Fraaiheid (together with Sjoerd Schaapveld) they have built up an extensive network and experience to be able to provide the client with the highest possible quality and the least concern on technical realization, budget and management of the project. From concept, to design and implementation. From product to building.

Imagining having a fresh brewed coffee or just a cold beer while enjoying the skyline of the vibrant city.

Timber Pirouette - an iconic timber tower with a flexible open building structure. A concept we developed in collaboration with Nederland ( Selek) and Keuning. The tower is built-up with repeating prefabricated timber floor-modules. By stacking and ‘rotating’ each module an appealing silhouette appears at the skyline.

Each floor has an open building structure without any load bearing walls. It’s highly flexible and adaptive to the changing needs in the future. In the meanwhile, on each floor, one to four units with spacious terraces are possible.

It’s a wrap! 2023 was a inspiring year for us where we have filled and broaden our portfolio with for example projects in healthcare, sports and timber/CLT. Residential projects have been put on hold but luckily got to proceed later on. And collecting an award just makes us feel appreciated for our hard work and commitment to our projects. It make us still believe we are on the right way building further on our studio.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2024 and lets hope there will be more peace around the world!

How can we make a timber building more poetic and sensual by thinking beyond, or better said, out of the ‘box’?

Therefor we developed - Timber Pirouette - an iconic timber tower with a flexible open building structure. We are very pleased that we could develop this concept in collaboration with Nederland ( Selek) and Keuning.

Wondering what the great panorama views on the surrounding will be like? We dare you to make it happen by joining forces with us to develop this concept into an iconic building!

To strengthen the relation of the interior of Panorama Penthouse with the surroundings a neutral basis of white and light grey colours are used for the floors, ceiling and existing walls. In a well-balanced contrast to these neutral colors the free-standing volumes on the seaside are relating to the the colors of the dunes and beaches and therefor materialised in a light oak wood. In the kitchen and dining room the sober grey colours refer to the modern city skyline.

Close-up shot of Red Ruby on Oostenburger Island in Amsterdam. An uni-colour residential building with an industrial character. The brickwork and pitched roof refer to the monumental Van Gendthallen. The balconies with steel look are designed as light and industrial add-ons to the massive volume of the building.
