Een gebouw in Utrecht bekleed met hout, zowel voor de gevels, het dak en het interieur. De gevelopeningen zijn strategisch gepositioneerd voor het gebruik, locatie en oriëntatie.
Dit project heeft de Houtprijs gekregen en is in diverse tijdschriften en boeken gepubliceerd.

The urban history of Leidsche Rijn dates back to the time of the Roman Empire. Today the region is being transformed from a mainly rural area into a new quarter of the city of Utrecht. Along one of the old routes with its variety of architectural typologies a new house is added after demolishing an old one.

The façade of the ground floor is materialized in ceder wood which continues as a garden fence to define the boundary between the public and private spaces. The main volume of the first floor is cladded in colourful natural slate and seems to float above its wooden base.

The house is very introvert on the streetside and opens to the rear garden with large sliding doors.

Into the closed front façade copper elements with small windows in between were added allowing daylight to enter into the staircase.

Adjacent to the house a secondary building serves as a children’s playroom and storage. In contrast with the main building it is materialized in black brick with aluminium windows. The two volumes are connected with a glazed corridor

An extension of a monumental house along the river, The Vecht, in the old village of Maarssen, in The Netherlands. The volume of the extension is inspired by the silhouette of the existing house. The two volumes are connected by a transparant element functioning as a ‘bridge’ between the old and the new. With its contemporary character, the sober detailing and materialization the extention contrasts with the original house and yet is closely related to it. The result is an extension with it’s own characteristics and respecting the existing house.

Van Rooijen Architecten heeft zich, van opgave tot opgave, ontwikkeld in zijn opvattingen over architectuur. Het bureau combineert daarbij een praktische benadering met een voorkeur voor conceptuele ontwerpen waarbij esthetiek en vakmanschap voorop staan.

Door goed naar de klant te luisteren wordt de essentie van een ontwerp gevonden en vanuit het wensen- en eisen pakket vertaald naar een betaalbaar ontwerp.

Met integrale kennis van diverse werkgebieden is het bureau in staat een project van ontwerp tot uitvoering tot stand te brengen. De nauwe creatieve samenwerking tussen de diverse partijen resulteert in een ontwerp waarbij kwaliteit zorgt voor een tijdloze uitstraling.

Voor overheden, particulieren en diverse professionele organisaties worden projecten gerealiseerd op het gebied van architectuur, stedenbouwkundige studies, interieur- en meubelontwerp. Het hechte team staat onder leiding van de architecten ir Theo van Rooijen en Faranak Nourbakhsh.
