THE STORY BEHIND THE “PUFFIN”

A few years ago we made a film with Olivier van Meer Design, the designer and driving force behind Puffin Yachts. In this video, he explains in his own words why he designed the Puffin in the first place, how her concept took shape, and what makes the idea still relevant today.

Now that the newest “Puffin 42” is sailing, it feels like the right moment to share this film again. The first footage of her under sail shows exactly what the Puffin stands for. A purposeful yacht with a clear signature, built to be used and built to go places.

PUFFIN 42: FIRST SAILING FOOTAGE

She sails. These are the first official moving images of the new “Puffin 42” by Olivier van Meer Design and VMG Yachtbuilders. There was no sunshine, but the footage is still beautiful and it is clear she is enjoying herself out on the water.

This is a tough, purposeful “Puffin 42”, built as a true explorer. Her bare aluminium hull forms a strong and honest base, combined with a white painted modern superstructure. The integrated bimini and solar arch is a real statement piece and gives her that confident explorer look that fits her character perfectly.

Most importantly, these first miles confirmed what we hoped for. She feels balanced, responsive and very capable under sail. A yacht that is built to be used, and built to go places.

We are proud to bring this “Puffin 42” to life and even more proud that we are able to deliver her to her owner. We wish them many safe miles and a lot of enjoyment on the water. From what we have seen so far, she is ready for it.

PUFFIN 42 UPDATE | ALMOST READY FOR SEA TRIALS

The Puffin 42 has now been launched and rigged, and is starting to look exactly as she was designed to be: a true sailing yacht.

After launching, she was directly sailed to the centre of Enkhuizen, where the rig was installed by the rigging experts of Jachtservice De Werf. With the mast now in place, her profile has changed completely. This is the stage we love, the stage where the yacht starts to come together as a sailing vessel.

The Puffin 42 is equipped with a cutter rig, featuring a mast with double spreaders and a diamond stay construction to provide additional stiffness and support to the top. This setup offers both strength and control, contributing to safe and stable sailing in a wide range of conditions.

She is fitted with two headsails and a Code 0, allowing her to adapt easily to different wind angles and conditions.

With the rig now installed, we focus on final preparations before she heads out for her first sea trials.

This Puffin 42 represents the next step for Puffin Yachts, built by VMG Yachtbuilders.All Puffin yachts are always designed by Olivier van Meer Design BV.

Puffin 58 "SC PUFFIN" For sale at Yachtfull

Puffin 58 feet Centerboard, designed by Olivier van Meer Yacht Design and fitted with the cleverly constructed retractable centreboard keel, (1,50 keel up and 3,30 keel down) which has made yachts like the renowned Puffin so popular. Because of its shallow draught, the ship has almost unlimited access which is quite unique for a 58 footer.

PUFFIN 42 UPDATE | LAUNCHED

Last week our Puffin 42 hit the water for the first time. After months of building and finishing, she is currently moored alongside our yard in the centre of Enkhuizen. This is where she is now going through the final phase of rig installation and completing the last details on board.

With her bare aluminium hull, white painted superstructure and the distinctive, tough looking bimini / solar arch, the Puffin 42 already shows the strong explorer character she was designed for.

Once the rigging is in place and the final systems checks are completed, she will be ready for her first sea trials.

This Puffin 42 represents the next step for Puffin Yachts, built by VMG Yachtbuilders.

More soon as she prepares for her first miles under sail. ⛵
