Two project managers, two technologies, one shared goal: creating a blueprint for bio-LNG. 🤝

In Hardanger, western Norway, we’re partnering with Nordsol for the first time to deliver a bio-LNG plant for Vireo As. Our PurePac system upgrades biogas into high-purity biomethane, which Nordsol’s liquefaction technology turns into bio-LNG for heavy road transport and maritime applications. The plant is expected to produce around 90 GWh of bio-LNG a year from local salmon processing residues and poultry manure.

Ruud Meulenbroek, our Project Manager, and Dorota Pigiel Leal, Project Manager at Nordsol, are leading the project together.

“Normally we deliver the gas into the grid, and that is easy for us,” says Ruud. “Here we deliver to Nordsol and have to match their demand with our production.”

For Dorota, the ambition goes beyond Hardanger: “Our goal is to create a blueprint. Not only a system that works this one time, but one that works for all the future projects.”

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻! In the Netherlands, when it’s your birthday, you bring the cake. So that’s exactly what we did in every HoSt Group office across Europe and North America.

We turned 35, and our colleagues celebrated the way it should be done: with a good cup of coffee and a generous slice of cake. In the Netherlands, the cake was served in our new headquarters in Hengelo, where we moved in this week.

We work from many locations, but we all started from the same idea, born in Hengelo, the Netherlands, in 1991: waste can become energy. Thirty-five years later, that idea is carried by people in different countries, time zones, and teams.

Thank you to all our colleagues for 35 years of (green) energy. Here’s to the next 35!

Italy’s biomethane market is moving forward, and we’re helping drive that progress. 🇮🇹

Across the country, we are helping plant owners and project developers turn biogas into high-quality biomethane for the gas grid. With multiple installations in Italy and a local team on the ground, we bring the technology and project experience to support the next phase of Italy's biomethane production.

One exciting development? Repowering existing biogas plants. Together with, HoSt Bioenergy Systems, we’re transforming three biogas plants into modern biomethane production facilities, with a combined end capacity of 2,200 Nm³/h. It’s an opportunity to make better use of existing assets while contributing to Italy’s growing biomethane market.

35 years ago, it all started in Hengelo. Today, we’re back.

During our 35th anniversary week, HoSt Group Netherlands opened the doors to our new headquarters, and we couldn’t think of a better week to start working here.

After a while spread across two locations, everyone is under one roof again, and you can feel it. People wander over to each other’s desks, conversations pick up in the hallways, and the ones who went months without sharing a coffee are catching up again.

Enschede, thank you for 16 great years. Hengelo, it’s good to be home. ❤️

𝗛𝗶𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗽 𝗵𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗮! That's what we sing in the Netherlands when someone celebrates their birthday. And today, it's our turn: HoSt Group, of which Bright Renewables is part, turns 35. 🎉

We're celebrating 35 years by building for the next 35.

On 18 October 1991, Herman Klein Teeselink and a small team in Hengelo started with one idea: waste can become energy. Today that idea runs in plants all over the world, built by people who believed in it, then and now.

We'll be singing it today and tomorrow, but certainly not only then. We are celebrating this for a whole year, so you'll be hearing it a lot more. Including, of course, at our famous anniversary weekend next year.

So keep an eye on this page. Tomorrow we move into our new headquarters in Hengelo. We chose that date on purpose: it is the very first working day of our anniversary year.

“Can we prove our CO₂ is food-grade?” 💡

It’s the question biomethane producers ask us most. So we answered it close to home.

WABICO, HoSt Group’s biomethane plant in Waalwijk, is now FSSC 22000 certified, one of the most rigorous food safety standards in the world.

Why it matters: captured CO₂ can lower a plant’s Carbon Intensity score by around 40 g CO₂/MJ, but only if it’s sold. The strongest demand comes from food and beverage, where buyers expect proof of food safety.

As a technology provider, we didn’t have to certify. We chose to, to learn the process from the inside. That experience is now a risk assessment template you can use in your own FSSC 22000 system.

🇳🇱🤝🇨🇱 Looking back at the PIB Chile–The Green Energy Corridor Chile–The Netherlands trade mission, our Area Sales Managers Ivan Derkink and Beatriz Corceiro had the opportunity to connect with Chilean and Dutch companies shaping the country’s new energy landscape.

For Bright Renewables, one topic stood out: the connection between BioCO₂ and green hydrogen.

BioCO₂ recovered from biogas, biomass and waste can provide a source of biogenic carbon for applications such as e-methanol. Combined with renewable hydrogen, this could open new opportunities for renewable fuel production.

The conversations in Chile gave us valuable insight into the opportunities ahead and where Dutch technology and Chilean ambitions could connect.

"Bright is constantly innovating. There is always something new." 💡

Meet Erik Peezenkamp, Mechanical Engineer at Bright Renewables, part of HoSt Group.

When Erik joined fifteen years ago, HoSt Group had around fifty employees. He started in biogas, working on large industrial digestion plants. Today he designs biogas upgrading and CO₂ liquefaction installations, and recently the team started working on a methanol reactor.

The future of UK biomethane won’t be decided by policy alone. 🌱

Policy, infrastructure and investment will shape which projects move forward. But once a plant is running, technology and plant performance will determine how well it performs.

We’ve seen this across our UK projects in Murrow, Charlton Park and Durham. Commissioning is only the start. The decisions made during project development can affect plant performance for years to come.

With the UK biomethane market evolving, developers and operators are looking at what makes a project commercially viable, reliable and ready for the future.

That’s what we’re discussing at UK Green Gas Day today, from biogas upgrading and plant performance to CO₂ recovery.
