With Casa Brutale I had the chance to see my work published in some of the biggest media globally, and yet there were a couple of them missing, The New York Times being one of them. Until now 🙂

A blast from the past? Well, almost..

An in-house video, created in 2016 for a presentation that never happened as OPA is now LAAV Architects resolution followed soon after. The video is a design philosophy/statement of the things Principal Architect and OPA founder Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou finds fascinating and inspiring while designing. Projects like the famous Casa Brutale, Lux Aeterna Chapel, Beirut Legacy tower and Porto Rafti residences make an appearance, in a video edited by associate architect Anna Rosa Moschouti with clips and renders by her and by Michalis Takopoulos.

All of the projects mentioned above are continuing through Laertis' new, personal platform LAAV Architects, also based in Haarlem, The Netherlands.

Sneak peak - first preview of our 110mil $ High-rise, mixed use tower commission in the heart of Beirut. Studied in 2016 from OPA Open Platform for Architecture OPA is now LAAV Architects and named as "Phoenix", it strongly honors the brutalist legacy of Lebanon with a contemporary twist. Later, as we discovered that the name was taken for another tower project, we changed it into what it represents, the Legacy of Beirut. A modular structure of 6 different types of apartments combined as a jenga stack. Due to complications with the land ownership the project is currently discontinued. Design team: Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou, Anna Rosa Moschouti, Michalis Takopoulos. Structural adviser: Arup Amsterdam designboom Archilovers

The 3rd Conference of Architecture & Tourism ATCRhodes, a production of the Design Ambassador for Archisearch is going to take place in Rhodes the 20th-21st of October with distinctive Speakers at a location that will soon be announced. Our keynote Speaker will be Ioanna Mitropoulou from ENNISMORE global hospitality company and curator of unique properties and experiences.

Talks and Workshops will take place by a group of talented architects. With titles such as "VIRAL HOLIDAYS
Architecture = Tourism = Social Media || Live for the Post, NOT the Moment" by Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou / The Importance of Photography in Architecture & Social Media & Architecture by Irini Giotopoulou.

Soon more names will be announced and all the details will be revealed...

“OPA is dead, long live LAAV Architects!”

As from the 1st of August 2018, OPA Open Platform for Architecture has closed forever, leaving behind countless achievements and memories of the architectural phenomenon named “Casa Brutale”. It started in 2014 as an ambitious, global network of professionals established in The Netherlands by Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou and this philosophy continues, together with the clientele and the legacy of OPA projects under Architects.
(The contract of Casa Brutale has been transferred to LAAV and will officially continue under the leadership of Laertis).

When the client tells you to go brutal(e) and you enjoy every single moment of it! Throwback to this tall-boy which is never going to see the headlines, a seafront, 30-floor, luxurious-condo’s tower in Beirut. A concrete-galore named “El Matador” from the dramatic 45 degree twist of the tower from its plinth in order to achieve the best views of Beirut downtown from the two 150sqm apartments on each floor. Designed by Laertis Antonios Ando Vassiliou back in 2016, just in 2 weeks, with Anna Rosa Moschouti and Michalis Takopoulos.
