Protecting the Netherlands from rising water levels while enhancing nature

Yesterday marked the official start of the implementation phase of the IJsselmeerdijk Reinforcement project, a milestone in strengthening flood resilience in the Netherlands.

As part of Combinatie IJsselmeerdijk, together with Boskalis Nederland, we are proud to support Waterschap Zuiderzeeland in reinforcing more than 17 kilometres of d**e between Lelystad and the Ketelbrug.

What makes this project unique is its innovative and nature-inclusive approach. Around 12 kilometres of the d**e will be reinforced with a wave-attenuating foreshore - a sustainable solution that enhances flood protection while creating new opportunities for biodiversity and nature development. The remaining sections will be strengthened through traditional d**e reinforcement measures.

With construction now underway, starting with the foreshore, we are applying our expertise in marine ingenuity to deliver a nature-inclusive flood protection solution that safeguards communities and enhances the surrounding ecosystem.

As part of the Dutch Hoogwaterbeschermingsprogramma (HWBP), this project contributes to the nationwide efforts to keep the Netherlands flood-safe for generations to come.

Baltica 2 monopile installation campaign completed safely and on schedule

Van Oord has successfully completed the transport, installation and scour protection of all 111 monopile installations for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland.

Delivered safely and on schedule, this milestone concludes one of the most demanding offshore construction campaigns in the Baltic Sea. Working closely with Ørsted and Grupa PGE our teams and specialist vessels Svanen and Ae**us installed some of the largest monopile foundations currently used in offshore wind, helping to keep the project on track.

Once operational, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm will generate enough renewable electricity to power around 2.5 million Polish households, supporting Poland's energy security and energy transition.

Building on our involvement in the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, Baltica 2 further strengthens Van Oord's presence in Poland and reflects our long-term commitment to supporting the growth of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea region.

In 2025, our LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredgers Vox Ariane, Vox Apolonia and Vox Alexia executed a coordinated operation in the Gulf of Gdańsk.

The three sister vessels worked side by side across the T5 Terminal, the FSRU Terminal and coastal protection projects, demonstrating the versatility and scale of Van Oord's dredging capabilities.

Together, they supported port expansion, energy infrastructure and climate resilience in Poland, further strengthening Van Oord's presence in the region and our ability to create value for local communities, trade and the energy transition.

Together with our subsidiary Mackley and in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, we have successfully completed the first beach nourishment pump as part of the Brighton Marina to River Adur Coastal Scheme – Phase 2.

This milestone marks the beginning of a significant phase of the UK project. Our trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Apolonia successfully delivered the first load of shingle to strengthen the beach profile and help reduce coastal flood risk for Brighton and the surrounding areas.

The works will safeguard local communities and infrastructure from the impacts of coastal erosion and flooding. We are proud to be delivering this vital climate-resilience project.

On board the Calypso, Master Ivo de Heij sees the energy transition from a global perspective.

Having spent 25 years at Van Oord and worked across dredging and offshore projects worldwide, he has witnessed remarkable advances in technology. But the challenge he sees today is not building the solutions, it is aligning behind them.

For Ivo, the energy transition will only succeed when the urgency to reduce our ecological footprint is matched by collective action across borders. While many of the solutions are already in place, progress will remain limited if countries, industries, and societies continue to move at different speeds.

A major milestone for the future accessibility of the Port of Rotterdam

With the successful completion of the first phase of the Yangtze Canal widening project, the Port of Rotterdam is taking another important step towards accommodating growing vessel traffic and larger container ships.

As part of the contractor consortium with Hakkers and De Klerk Werkendam, Van Oord is proud to play a key role in both phases of this strategic project. Our expertise in dredging and construction of sustainable maritime infrastructure is shaping safer and more efficient access to Maasvlakte 2 while supporting the future growth of the port.

The first phase of the project is complete, delivering a new tugboat quay with 12 berths and shore power facilities. Together with our partners, we are already executing phase two which consists of the construction of 1,450 metres of quay wall, 20 new inland shipping berths, and the widening of the navigation channel to accommodate the next generation of container vessels.

As a longstanding partner of the Port of Rotterdam, Van Oord continues to support the development of its maritime infrastructure, helping ensure the port remains ready for the increasing scale and demands of global shipping.

Van Oord consortium selected as preferred contractor for Roberts Bank Terminal 2 in Canada

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has selected a Van Oord consortium for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 - Landmass and Wharf project in Delta, British Columbia, Canada.

The project will increase container capacity at the Port of Vancouver by 50%, delivering a new three-berth marine container terminal at Canada's largest port and creating 130 hectares of new industrial waterfront land.

Drawing on decades of global experience in dredging, land reclamation, d**e construction and rock works, Van Oord is well positioned to help deliver this landmark project. Together with our client and partners, Aecon Group Inc., Canada Inc. and Carlson Construction Group Inc., we look forward to supporting the continued development of Vancouver's port infrastructure, helping Canada meet the growing demands of global trade.

Van Oord and Boskalis secure contract to expand the Port of Luleå, Sweden 🇸🇪

The Port of Luleå is set for a major expansion as part of the Malmporten Project, supporting sustainable transport and the green industrial transition in northern Sweden.

Together with Boskalis, we'll deepen the fairway and harbour basin, enabling larger vessels to access the port while increasing its capacity for the future. With innovative dredging techniques and a strong focus on environmental protection, we're looking forward to delivering the next phase of this important project.

Having completed the preparatory dredging works in 2024, we're excited to return to Luleå.
