“What I love most is the variety. One day I’m behind my screen doing calculations, the next I’m on-site seeing the result.” — Martijn, Sales Engineer
Martijn joined Veko over six years ago after realizing he was ready for a new start. “At my previous job, I wasn’t in the right place anymore. I wanted a fresh challenge.” Through a vacancy he found online, he ended up in a completely new world: the lighting industry. “I had worked in retail interior construction before, so lighting wasn’t entirely unfamiliar, but Veko was totally new to me. I’d never heard of the company before.”
What surprised him the most when he started? The product itself. “I used to think lighting was simple: switch it on, switch it off. But there’s so much more possible. When you’re new to the lighting industry, it really opens a whole new world.”
Martijn started as a Calculator, but quickly showed potential to grow. Over the years, he developed step by step, including time as a project lead, and since last April he has been working as a Sales Engineer. “For me, the goal was to create more diversity in my work. And that’s exactly what I have now.”
His job has no typical workday and that’s exactly why it fits him so well. “One day I’m working on lighting calculations behind my computer. Another day I’m meeting a customer, supporting a project start-up, doing a handover, or performing a light measurement early in the morning or late in the evening. I would never be happy doing the same routine every day.”
For Martijn, what makes Veko special is being able to stand behind what you offer. “It’s a good feeling to know you can deliver a quality product and that you believe in what you’re selling.” If he had to describe his work at Veko in three words? Team spirit. Diverse. Challenging.
Outside of work, Martijn enjoys DIY projects, going out for dinner with friends and he has a soft spot for winter. And one fun fact many colleagues may not know yet? “I have a huge happy socks collection.”
💡 “When the customer is happy and you see the result of your work in real life, that’s when I go home with a good feeling.”
