The GeoMôn Unesco Global Geopark - Anglesey's geopark has officially joined the initiative!

From the island’s extraordinary 1.8-billion-year geological story to its rich local food traditions, this partnership will help connect geoheritage, local producers, sustainable tourism, and community pride across Ynys Môn.

We look forward to seeing GeoMôn’s landscapes, culture, and flavours showcased through GEOfood experiences and products.

🌹 Roses, Nature & Regional Heritage in the Heart of Thuringia 🌹 Rosenhof Holzhausen

The farm shop at the rose plantation is open from May 29 until the end of June — every Friday to Sunday from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Visitors can discover handcrafted rose specialties, natural rose water products, and the beauty of the blooming plantation within the fascinating landscape of the UNESCO Global Geopark Thüringen Inselsberg - Drei Gleichen

As part of the GEOfood network, the plantation contributes to connecting sustainable regional products with the unique geological and cultural heritage of Thuringia.

Welcome to Cabox Aspiring Geopark!

Cabox— Newfoundland’s highest peak — rises above one of the world’s most remarkable geological landscapes in western Newfoundland’s Bay of Islands region. As an Aspiring UNESCO Global Geopark, the region is also becoming an aspiring GEOfood territory, showing how local food, culture, and communities can be part of the journey toward UNESCO recognition.

The new “Aspiring GEOfood” label now allows aspiring geoparks to join and receive support along the way as they work toward becoming full UNESCO Global Geoparks — connecting people to the land through both geology and local flavours.

🌍🍽️ The GEOfood concept continues to grow as an international initiative connecting geology, local food, culture, and sustainable development across UNESCO Global Geoparks.

A big thank you to all participants of the recent IGCP726 UNESCO GEOfood meeting for the inspiring discussions, shared experiences, and collaborative spirit! 🤝

🔎 Highlights from the meeting:
✅ GEOfood officially received UNESCO endorsement in June 2025
✅ Stronger international cooperation between Geoparks, researchers, producers, and local communities
✅ Development of scientific methodologies linking geoheritage, biodiversity, food systems, and local economies
✅ New evaluation and implementation tools to support GEOfood worldwide

📚 Main outcomes achieved (2021–2025):

Meratus Geopark Bpgm is characterised by a remarkable landscape known for its rich geological heritage, high biodiversity, and strong cultural traditions.

Through the GEOfood concept, Meratus Geopark will promote its local food heritage while highlighting the deep connection between geology, biodiversity, culture, and sustainable agriculture.

The geopark’s mountains, forests, wetlands, and plantations provide fertile environments where local communities cultivate a wide range of traditional food crops and spices.

Farmers in the region grow products such as cinnamon, chili, coffee, ginger, candlenut, and other local commodities, using practices that reflect a long-standing balance between people and nature. These foods represent not only important sources of livelihood but also the unique flavors and identity of the Meratus landscape.
