Sevan Deepwater Technology has been accepted as a new participant in the GCE NODE cluster, adding specialized competence in floating offshore structures to the region’s technology ecosystem.

Sevan is known for its cylindrical hull designs used in FPSOs, drilling units, and other offshore installations operating in harsh environments. Its engineering services span concept development, naval architecture, and life cycle support for advanced floating units.

“The addition of Sevan strengthens our position as a leading arena for offshore innovation and collaboration. We are happy to have them onboard,” says Knut Mjåland, CEO of GCE NODE.

Cecilie Furnes has never shied away from a challenge. The Norwegian is currently on her third international mission for SLB.

Given the responsibility to lead a division of 400 people in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Furnes packed her gear a few months ago and found a new home in the Saudi city of Dammam.

The event spotlighted digitalization and artificial intelligence in the process industry. The gathering welcomed professionals from diverse companies and disciplines, emphasizing inclusion and gender diversity.

A two-day aquaculture course held in Agder this week offered participants a deep dive into the future of fish farming.

Developed by GCE NODE, Innakva KLYNGE, and NIVA – and supported by Agder County, the program aimed to foster innovation and knowledge transfer between the region’s offshore industries and the national aquaculture sector.

Funding of the Global Center of Expertise (GCE) level of the Norwegian Cluster Program ends this year. Torger Reve, Professor Emeritus at Norwegian business school BI and birther of the GCE level, reflects on this.

Reve’s vision for a tiered cluster system – Arena, NCE, and GCE – was born from the need to support industry-specific innovation across different maturity levels. While Arena and NCE focused on emerging and growing clusters, GCE was designed for globally competitive ecosystems.

GCE NODE had the pleasure of welcoming Prem Prakash, the Consul General for India responsible for operations in the Agder and Rogaland counties.

Representatives from SLB and NOV used the opportunity to meet with Prakash while he was in Kristiansand last week. Discussions focused on SLB and NOV’s operations in India, with the Consul General expressing interest in visiting their facilities in India in December.

Is technology empowering us or making us more passive? Philosophie professor Einar Duenger Bøhn posed this question during a thought-provoking session in Kristiansand Thursday.

Bøhn reflected on a recent tech-free hiking trip. Without GPS or smartphones, Bøhn and two young sons navigated by map and compass for a weekend, determined to find their way home before school started Monday morning. They arrived Sunday evening, fulfilled.
