Arkitekt Margrethe Rosenlund

Arkitekt Margrethe Rosenlund Architect Margrethe Rosenlund, based in Oslo, Norway. Portfolio mainly residential: houses, cabins, apartments, interiors, furniture.

The studio is located in Oslo, Norway, where you’ll find us in a former corner shop on a charming little square in the vibrant Grünerløkka neighbourhood. It’s run by architect Margrethe Rosenlund, sivilarkitekt mnal, and upon the project’s demand engages a network of freelancers and collaborators. We take on a variety of projects, and our former work experience is on a scale from small furniture t

o large office or housing complexes, acquired through practicing as an architect in companies such as Lund+Slaatto arkitekter and arkitektkontoret Kari Nissen Brodkorb (now MER arkitektur), and also as a partner in MORFEUS arkitekter. These days we focus on everything residential, spanning over villas, two-family homes, generation homes, town houses, cabins, holiday homes, apartments, loft expansions, interior architecture and so on. The budgets of our projects span from shoestring to ample, and even though we of course love to work with access to exclusive products and solutions (who wouldn’t?) we also really appreciate the challenge of creating within stricter budget limitations. Good architecture isn’t necessarily expensive, it just needs a great idea. As you can see from our portfolio, that includes both mediterranean style holiday homes and simple and minimal nordic farm houses, to mention just a few samples, we can’t say we have a distinct style. The architecture in each project is shaped not only by the architect’s viewpoint but is very much a result of all the other formative factors in this puzzle. The site, with its possibilities and limitations, it’s formal regulations and its role in the urban web or landscape. The clients, with their visions, background and requirements. The builder and her or his skills, experience and ideas. And the input from clever and competent consultants in various fields. Together all this knowledge, ideas and framework will result in an architectural language that varies from project to project, hopefully creating just the right answer for the demands of the specific assignment.

Throwback to a heart project: Reidun’s cabin on Ustaoset, in the Norwegian mountains. A cabin for one person, that still has plenty of space for guests. The enveloping shape creates a shielded space for privacy and rest, and provides a spectacular mountain view.

The Grey Loft is featured in this month’s - run and get your hands on a copy! This was a lovely project to work with, great clients with interesting ideas, and highly skilled craftsmen in all functions. We did a total remake of the whole apartment, shifting functions around, changing all surfaces, design and install bathrooms, kitchen, staircase and lots of bespoke furniture, as well as assisting in choosing and purchasing fixtures and lighter furniture. And we love the way it turned out!

was the main contractor, while built the kitchen, staircase and bespoke furniture, all of which we designed especially for this project.

Skylight shower, the best kind of shower!

From the soon completed villa on Nordstrand, Oslo. The addition of a top floor on an existing bungalow plus a total facade transformation is nearly done, the interiors are coming along nicely and I’m excited to see how it will all come together.

From today’s visit to the building site for a single-family house we’re working on in Nordstrand, Oslo. Step by step getting closer to completion! A one-storey house from the 70’s got a brand new top floor, plus a complete and total makeover of the ground floor facade. Hopefully the house will be completed over the summer, so I’ll be back with photos of the final result some time in early autumn, I might also throw in a before-and-after montage or two. Stay tuned!

2022 has brought really interesting projects and great teamwork with collaborators and clients, both old and new. We've completed quite a few jobs together that I'll be proud to present soon, and new projects have arrived that I'm really looking forward to digging into. From the look of it 2023 should be a good year - I'm ready!

My mother’s mountain cabin, one of my first independent projects. I always love to come back here. There are a number of details I would have done differently today, of course, with more experience. But the main qualities still remain. Framed views, sheltered zones. Simple and pretty basic standard. Good materials. So, still one of my favourite projects.

See more on https://www.margretherosenlund.no/cabin-haugastol (you can literally see more there, as today was extraordinary foggy!)
