15% lower construction costs. 30% shorter building time. 50% lower climate impact.

After two years of development, the Timber Construction Industry Network (BN3) is launching Tre60 — a new Norwegian building system for multi-storey housing.

Oslotre As has led the development of the system, demonstrating that we can build faster, more affordably and with a significantly lower climate impact — without compromising on daylight, indoor climate or quality of living.

The cost calculations have been quality-assured by Backe and benchmarked against current residential projects and market prices in the Oslo region.

Tre60 shows that the solution to the housing crisis is not to build poorer homes, but to build smarter.

Now we look forward to the next phase: demonstrating Tre60 at full scale and bringing real projects to life together with developers across Norway. 🌲

Timber craftsmanship at Kistefos

We are proud to highlight the work of Oslopre, Oslotre’s sister company, which was responsible for the timber design, engineering and assembly of the primary timber structure for the new visitor centre at Kistefos Museum, designed by Lundhagem.

With its complex geometry, inclined timber columns and mass timber roof, the structure required a high level of precision—from detailed timber engineering and production planning to on-site assembly.

A big thank you to Aanesland Treindustri for the excellent collaboration, and to the entire project team for bringing this unique timber structure to life.

Kistefos’ nye besøkssenter er ferdigstilt med arkitektur inspirert av lokal natur og historie.

Wood does more than create beautiful spaces.

A new fMRI study, led by neuroscientist Steven Laureys from the University of Liège and neuropsychologist Steven Scholte from Neurensics in Amsterdam, suggests that wooden interiors can promote positive emotions, a greater sense of safety, lower stress and increased creativity.

The findings support something many of us intuitively understand: the materials around us affect both body and mind.

Architecture is not only about square metres, technical requirements and energy performance. It is also about creating places where people feel safe, inspired and at home.

The materials we build with shape the way we live.

Lumber 5

LUMBER 5 is complete.

On 1 July, LUMBER 5 was handed over, the second building we have designed for Skeie Eiendom in Vågsbygd,

The 7,000 m² timber building spans seven floors of office space, with a neighbourhood restaurant on the ground floor.

Built with a high degree of prefabrication, the project has enabled an efficient construction process, short build time and strong overall project economy.

Its curved timber façade shifts character with changing weather and seasons, giving the building a dynamic and expressive presence. Through timber, colour and precise material detailing, LUMBER 5 brings new life to the area and creates an inviting urban character.

The project shows how modern timber architecture, building systems, material use and climatic conditions can come together in a clear architectural concept.

What would you sell the Earth for?

In a new essay for Arkitektur, Oslotre’s Jørgen Tycho writes about Hurummarka, a forest landscape near the Oslofjord that is under threat from the proposed expansion of explosives production.

The text reflects on a visit to the forest with peace activists Magnus Jonas Støre and Caroline Treider, and asks a difficult question: What happens when nature is treated as land, resource, security policy or collateral damage?

For us, this is also an architectural question.

Architecture is not only about what we build. It is also about what we choose to leave standing.

Not everything can be sacrificed.
Not everything can be built over.
Not everything is for sale.

Når naturen reduseres til tomt, ressurs og avbøtende tiltak, må arkitekter og rådgivere finne tilbake til sitt samfunnsoppdrag, skriver Jørgen Tycho.

Creative Director at Oslotre As, Jørgen Tycho, has written a piece in Arkitektur about why the future cannot be built with yesterday’s logic.
The architecture debate is far too often about style: ugly or beautiful, classical or modern, ornament or smooth façades. But the challenge goes deeper than the façade.

Architecture in our time is about repairing the relationship between people and nature. About building durably, sensitively to place, and with resources in mind. About healthier spaces, less waste, lower emissions, and a stronger connection to place, history, and everyday life.

We do not need nostalgia. Nor do we need more of the same: more concrete, more technology, more complexity, and more bureaucracy.

We need a new building culture.

A building culture rooted in renewable, cultivable, and intelligent materials. One that uses forests, timber, and bio-based materials wisely. One that combines old material knowledge with new technology, prefabrication, and digital production.

Norway has the forests. We have the building traditions. We have the technology. We have the knowledge.

Now we need ambition, new thinking, and politicians who dare to make this a strategy for the future.

Good for the planet. Good for people. In symbiosis with nature. 😊
