⚡ Electrical Interlocking — Explained Simply for Beginners

Electrical interlocking is a smart safety method used in hotel engineering and industrial systems to ensure only one motor or contactor runs at a time. This prevents overloads, short circuits, and equipment damage — keeping operations safe and efficient.

In this wiring diagram, three contactors (K1, K2, K3) are connected so that when one turns ON, the others automatically stay OFF. This is commonly used in HVAC plants, cooling towers, water pumps, and MDB panels.

---

🔧 How It Works

1️⃣ Press ON1 (S4) → Contactor K1 energizes.
2️⃣ K1’s holding contact keeps it ON even after releasing the button.
3️⃣ K1’s interlock contact blocks power to K2 and K3.
4️⃣ Press OFF1 (S1) to stop K1.
5️⃣ Same logic applies to K2 and K3 — only one can run at a time.

---

🏨 Where It’s Used in Hotels

• HVAC & Chiller Plants
• Cooling Tower Fan Motors
• Water Pump Systems
• Main Distribution Boards (MDB)

---

💡 Why It Matters

✔ Prevents overloads and short circuits
✔ Protects motors and equipment
✔ Improves system reliability
✔ Saves energy and maintenance cost
