S.K.I House, Wānaka.

A multi-award-winning alpine retreat where structural concrete blocks do more than hold the line. They help shape the whole home.

Designed by Roberts Gray Architects (), S.K.I House uses Viblock structural concrete blocks to create a quiet, grounded response to Central Otago’s extremes. The double-skinned construction supports year-round thermal performance, while the modular block system informed everything from room proportions to window placement.

Solid, calm, precise. A home built for the seasons, and for generations.

One of our favourite textures is having a moment.

Tomorrow night, Viblock 20 Series Fluted Blocks will feature on Grand Designs New Zealand as part of .nz’s The Rocks project in Queenstown.

Here are a few of our favourite fluted moments from the Viblock archive.

With its clean linear profile, fluted concrete brings rhythm, depth and shadow to concrete blocks and bricks, shifting with the light and adding quiet detail to bold architectural forms.

Designed by and built by , the project features Viblock 20 Series Fluted structural blocks and 390 Fluted Bricks in Carbon Black, carried across the exterior cladding and interior feature walls.

The fluted finish adds depth, rhythm and shadow, giving the concrete a crafted architectural presence without overpowering the warmth of timber or the precision of steel.

It’s a strong example of what we love about concrete: enduring materiality, clean lines, and the ability to shape a home from the ground up.
