Richie from Richie’s Brick & Block takes us through Sumner House in Christchurch, where Viblock 450 Slim concrete bricks continue from the exterior into the home through matching brick slips cut from the same product.

Te Mata House, Hawke’s Bay.

Here, concrete is doing more than defining the architecture.

Positioned to receive the lower winter sun, the home’s honed structural blocks and concrete floors absorb warmth during the day and gradually release it as temperatures fall. In summer, orientation, shading and ventilation help limit direct solar gain.

It is a considered example of thermal mass working as part of a complete passive-solar design, bringing material, comfort and landscape together.
