One of four transplanted that week. One of 22 direct transplants across the project. One of 40 trees relocated in total.

No more waiting. No more bags. Straight back into the ground.

After four years in a site nursery, this pōhutukawa is finally heading home.

Once growing in a ditch, it was lifted to make way for construction. Today, it’s being transported across site to a spectacular hilltop position overlooking the sea.

Not a bad upgrade.

Loaded up, rolled out, and headed for their next chapter in new homes across Auckland.

A year ago this week, direct transplanting was underway at Villa Maria.

Lifted by crane, hauled by truck, carried by digger, and replanted the very same day.

Just a short trip across the vineyard, but a whole new chapter for these magnificent pōhutukawa.

Less than a year ago, this tī kōuka was lifted and placed into a custom container.

Today, the rootball is packed with fresh roots and ready for its next chapter.

Strong roots are the foundation of every successful transplant.

The kiss at the end? Completely justified.

One year ago this week, the team began another day relocating mature pōhutukawa across the former Villa Maria vineyard, helping create the future green belt that now lines the crater rim.

Big trees. Good people. Great memories.
