At Texco Groundworks Ltd, we're not just about building new - we're about finding innovative solutions to tricky problems. Earlier this year, our crew faced a significant challenge at Heaton Intermediate: an untreated artesian well at the bottom of a stormwater catchment area, threatening damage to the newly built outdoor courts and nearby structures.

With 1500m3 of water already pooled and the risk of a rainfall event looming, we had to think fast and ensure a lasting solution. It was a race against time and water.

Utilising the expertise of a hydrogeological engineer and our first-principle methodologies, we crafted a new plan of attack. This involved a complex process of injecting grout bentonite mixture into visible springs, installing a gravel pack well to equalise head pressure, and laying a concoction of concrete, bentonite, and geo-grid.

After intensive work capping each 'branch' of the water source and installing the necessary structures, we returned to a site free from rising water. The area was then beautified with plants to aid in sediment removal, leaving behind a scene that belies the intense engineering and teamwork required.

Exciting update from our team out on site! Ben and Tim Tom have been making strides installing 9m 400mm sheet piles at a local intermediate in Christchurch. They are pulling out all of the stops, tackling the interesting ground conditions and exciting some discerning young critics. This is the first of two tasks for Southbase Construction, with the installation of two dewatering wells to follow the sheet installation. Awesome to be able to make an impact in our young whanaus community

Marking a quarter-century of Texco's drilling and piling division is a momentous occasion. Although Texco commenced operations in 1980, our dedicated drilling and piling division proudly celebrates its 25-year milestone in 2023. As we reflect on the past, we eagerly anticipate the next 25 years of continued growth, innovation, and success. Here's to the achievements of the past and the exciting journey that lies ahead!

Time to catch up and celebrate with the team at Downer NZ's Major Cycle Routes upgrade. Two crews in the Mait midi drill and 12t piling hammer are tackling the 2.4km of retaining wall for the cyclist pathway in Redwood. 923 250 SED piles are stabilising the footpath as it descends to a culvert 2m below finish level. Excited to track the projects progress as the wall takes shape.

Check it out in action, boring holes for a retaining wall, drilling soak holes, and tracking its way off the transporter.
