Our team is growing!

We are delighted to welcome Wietz van der Westhuizen to the Tuatara team.

Wietz joins us as Principal of Pre-Construction. He will lead our estimating and design function for our projects nationwide, turning early-stage plans into accurate, dependable pricing our clients can build on with confidence. He brings over 11 years of experience in quantity surveying and pre-construction, with a career that's taken him across projects in New Zealand, Qatar and South Africa.

Wietz cares about clear communication as much as accuracy, making sure exclusions, assumptions and risks are explained in plain language, so clients always know exactly what they're getting and why. For him, good pricing isn't just about the number, it's about the thinking behind it. It's exactly the kind of approach we value at Tuatara, and we are glad to have him on board.

This week we are taking you back to Fisher Properties. Located on Sir Gil Simpson Drive, this building will deliver premium, high spec office space for our team at Tuatara and Monkeytoe Group, who will both be tenants in the new space.

Internal fit-out is well underway on both levels, with partitioning, tiling and joinery progressing throughout. The lift and glazing are installed, and ACM cladding is going on outside with joint sealing now underway.

Working with Richard Fisher on this new build has been a real pleasure. We have worked closely together from the early stages to shape a solution that delivers for the site, the future tenants, and the long term vision for the development.

Last Friday we held our latest Race to the Sky team training day, our quarterly get together to reflect on the quarter behind us and set clear priorities for the one ahead.

The strategy takes its name from the Empire State Building, built in just 410 days through precise planning, clear roles and thousands of people working towards one goal.

We looked at how every area of the business, whatever the role, shapes the outcome for our clients. We looked ahead to the quarter and what we are working towards. Team training is a great opportunity to build momentum and foster motivation within the team, to ensure we continue to outperform and deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients.

An industrial building is only as good as how well it fits the business inside.

That is the starting point for every project: how does this business actually operate, what do they make, how does product move through the space, and where's the business headed in five years? We design around those answers, not the other way round.

That also means the first set of drawings is rarely the last. As a project takes shape, businesses often see things differently, new machinery gets chosen, or a better way of working comes to light. We build room for that into the process instead of fighting it.

And a new build is a chance to fix what's built up over years, awkward layouts, workarounds, departments spread across different sites, not just more floor space.

Last week we were up with the early birds at the new Marshs Road development, celebrating with our clients and subbies on site with a good old Tuatara BBQ.

It was a great chance to see this project building momentum, with plenty happening across the site at the moment. Structural steel is going up, concrete is being poured, and drainage work continues to progress well.

Last week we caught up with Abbey Ragg, recipient of our Land and Property Management scholarship at Lincoln University, along with Penny Curran and Naomi Wilde from Lincoln University (NZ).

It was great to sit down together and hear more about her studies and her future career aspirations. Abbey is passionate about rural valuation and is working toward becoming a registered valuer, and we are excited to support her studies and look forward to seeing where her journey takes her.

This week we sponsored and attended the Cold Storage Conference in Christchurch, hosted by the New Zealand Cold Storage Association. It was NZCSA's biggest conference yet, with 350 delegates, 35 speakers and 60 sponsors, all focused on the theme "The Quest for Efficiency."

It was a great opportunity to connect with industry leaders and innovators from across the sector. The energy throughout the event was positive, with plenty of valuable conversations and future-focused thinking.

Here at Tuatara Structures the rewarding part of our projects is taking our clients on the journey from the initial design stage to completion.

Last week marked the grand opening for the NZ Post project in the heart of the Hawkes Bay. Thank you to everyone who attended the barbeque and celebrated the completion of the new building.

This 4,600m² building is complete and ready for its new tenants, NZ Post. This purpose built facility brings together their Napier and Hastings operations under one roof. It's a larger, more efficient space designed to boost productivity and streamline operations.

It has been a pleasure to have been entrusted with this project, and partnering with both the client and NZ Post has been a fantastic opportunity.
