Our Display Home has now been open for a few months, and if you haven’t visited yet, consider this your sign!

We’ve loved the positive feedback and enjoyed meeting both new and familiar faces who have come through the door.

Design + Build | Burnside | Site update

Only a month has passed since our last visit, but the list of completed tasks is impressive. GIB installation is now complete, with internal plastering and painting also ticked off.

The electricians are currently onsite, while the painters are progressing with the Axon Panel paintwork. Our R+B Build team is preparing for the installation of the cedar cladding next week, and the stonemasons will be onsite over the coming days to begin work on a feature stone-cladding element.

Also on the agenda are the plywood ceiling installation in the lounge and dining area, along with the kitchen install.

With each stage completed, this thoughtfully designed home is rapidly taking shape and showcasing the vision behind the build.

Standing proudly on Redmund Spur, this home enjoys a prime position overlooking Christchurch City and the Southern Alps.

At just under 300m², this split-level residence features expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that maximise natural light while capturing the surrounding views, creating a sense of peace and tranquility throughout the home.

The exterior combines Coloursteel and cedar cladding, complementing the home's architectural form and allowing it to sit seamlessly within the hillside landscape.

Site update | Secluded on Emeline Chapman

We have a roof! With the foundations, framing, and trusses now covered in, this house is feeling more like a home each day.

Aluminium joinery and windows are currently being installed, allowing natural light to pour into the spaces throughout the home.

A striking feature of this build is the cathedral ceilings in both the kitchen, dining, and living area, as well as the master bedroom. The sense of space and openness gives the home a unique energy that can be felt the moment you walk through the door.

Currently protected under cover is the concrete flooring, which is set to become another standout feature in this thoughtfully designed home.

The next significant stage will be the installation of the exterior cladding, a combination of metal tray, cedar, and stone.

Detail Feature | Fireplaces

We’ve now designed a number of homes incorporating fireplaces, ranging from gas to wood-fuelled options. Alongside their functionality in providing warmth to the home, fireplaces also add a distinct visual aesthetic and atmosphere to the space.

Most commonly located in the lounge area, they quickly become the favourite place to gather on a cold, wet winter’s night.

There’s something timeless about a fireplace, creating a space that feels as inviting as it is functional.

With both homes now closed in, insulated, and exterior cladding underway, this project is really gaining momentum.

Design + Build | Arther Smith | Site update

External cladding is almost complete, with the Rockcote and tray cladding now finished and Stria the final element to be applied. The selected colour palette beautifully complements the surrounding landscape while still making a statement.

Inside, plastering is complete and painting is now underway. Two bedrooms will feature alternative paint colours to the main living spaces, along with feature wallpaper selections - stay tuned for the reveal in the coming weeks.

Next on the agenda is the kitchen installation, the true hub of the home, featuring a unique design tailored to our clients’ needs and lifestyle.

Cashmere Estate truly is a gem location in Christchurch.

Team Spotlight - Ri

Introducing our newest Senior Architectural Designer at RBA Studio, R+B Build’s sister company and in-house architectural team.

Ri brings a distinct creative edge, along with strong project coordination skills. Widely travelled, she offers fresh ideas and innovation to her work.

Now settling into the team, we asked Ri a few questions:

1. Can you share a little about your background in architectural design and what inspired you to join RBA Studio?

Prior to studying architecture, my background was in fine arts. My art practice led me to travel and exhibit extensively, and over time my work became increasingly focused on architecture and urbanism. Eventually, I made the decision to pursue architecture formally.

The work of RBA Studio demonstrates a strong integration of quality design and construction - a balance that designers continually strive for. I had also previously worked with colleagues Molly and Josh, so I knew it would be a great team and environment to join.

2. As Senior Architectural Designer, how do you approach creating homes that are both beautifully considered and highly functional for the way our clients live?

As a designer, I believe it is a privilege to create homes for our clients. We are in the unique position of visualising a building before it can be fully articulated. A beautifully considered, highly functional design comes from understanding the site and listening carefully to how our clients aspire to live.

Our role is to bring these elements together and shape them into something that not only meets but exceeds expectations.

3. What excites you most about working within an integrated design and build team, and the opportunity to help shape exceptional homes from concept through to completion?

Working within an integrated design and build team is incredibly valuable, as it allows for continuity and oversight as a project moves through both design and construction. This level of integration provides deeper insight and enables greater precision in the final outcome.
