A game-changing moment for New Zealand’s building sector.
Building Consent Approvals (BCA) has officially launched — the country’s first fully independent, accredited residential Building Consent Authority. Backed by MBIE and IANZ, and focused on speed, quality, and innovation, this marks a major shift for builders, developers, and homeowners.
Faster consents. Smarter solutions. Real impact.
We're excited to support faster, smarter residential approvals across Aotearoa
New Zealand’s first independent residential Building Consent Authority is here.
We’re proud to announce the launch of Building Consent Approvals (BCA) — the first fully accredited and registered independent provider of residential building consents in New Zealand.
The privately-owned company will operate nationally and promises to issue building consents within 10 working days for eligible residential projects.
Accredited by the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) and assessed by IANZ, BCA offers a trusted alternative to council consent processes — focused specifically on low-risk residential housing such as single-storey homes.
Key outcomes include:
• Building consents issued in 10 working days or less for eligible projects
• 2-day turnaround for replicated, pre-approved designs
• Remote inspections for up to 30% of assessments
• Code Compliance Certificates issued within 2 working days
Chaired by Tony Sewell — a highly respected leader in property and development — BCA is committed to supporting the delivery of high-quality housing in high-growth areas, while reducing pressure on councils.
This is a significant step forward for New Zealand’s building sector. It gives homeowners, developers, and builders a reliable, accredited alternative.
Faster approvals. Greater choice. The same legislative assurance.
We’re just getting started — follow our journey as we deliver faster, smarter building approvals nationwide.
