Using a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) instead of just a qualified carpenter matters — especially for exterior work like cladding, junctions, and weatherproofing like shown in your photos.

Here’s the clear difference:

Licensed Builder (LBP) — Why it matters
• Legally allowed to carry out Restricted Building Work (RBW)
This includes weathertightness, cladding, structural framing, and envelope work — exactly what your building shows.
• Accountable under NZ Building Act
An LBP must sign off their work, and their name goes on council records. That means traceability and responsibility.
• Proven competency in weathertightness
Details like:
• cladding clearances
• downpipe penetrations
• corner flashings
• soffit junctions
• bottom plate ventilation
must meet E2 External Moisture requirements — LBPs are assessed on this.
• Can issue Record of Work (ROW)
This protects the homeowner and proves compliance if selling later.
• Insurance & liability protection
If something leaks later, there is clear liability.
