April look-ahead
Today, the 1st, is the day of the new moon, and the start of the India New Year, the first of 9 days of fasting. Geoengineering people have claimed that extra cold temperatures in Brisbane have been manmade, but how do they explain the below map in the 2022 NZ almanac for today which shows a fairly extensive low pressure area for the region, and the book has been available for 9 months?
NZ is about to experience some rain about next week, around Tuesday in the lower North Island but Thursday to Saturday elsewhere. The change in phase occurs next Saturday. The 17th is the full moon day, and following that comes heavy rain from Waikato southwards, including Christchurch, South Canterbury and Southland.
April is very much drier than average, more so for the North Island. Around the 8th-9th, because of the lunar apogee, there is the chance of a cold southerly outbreak which may bring snow to the central North Island. Christchurch may wake up to the first frost around the 5th, and Auckland should feel colder around the 10th. Temperatures will suddenly become cooler everywhere after the 11th, due to anticyclones which bring mainly sunny weather.
The Bay of Plenty is expected to be the driest, with less than a handful of rain days expected. Apart from Southland, nearly all areas are expected to be drier than average, but Coastal Otago is the exception, and can expect a wet month.
Apart from minor rumblings, normal for the month, few earthquakes are expected for the country this month, although 16th-20th is the high risk period, and is, as always, to be watched.
