RCDs (Residue Current Devices) - Your Caravan's Electrical Superhero:

Ever wondered what that little 'Test' button in your switchboard is for? That's your RCD, and it's really important for keeping everyone safe.

What does it do?
Your RCD watches the electricity flowing into your caravan and back out again. If it notices even a tiny bit of power 'leaking' somewhere it shouldn't--like through a toster--it snaps the power of in a fraction of a second.

Why is this important?
RCDs are designed to keep people safe. They are there to stop people getting an electric shock.

Does every caravan or campervan need one?
Yes. Every caravan or campervan must have an operating RCD.

How can I ensure my RCD is operating correctly?
You can do two things:
(1) Push the 'Test' button on your RCD - this tests the mechanical operation of your RCD. If it doesn’t operate or oerates slowly, it needs to be replaced. Call an electrician.
(2) Ensure your caravan or camper's eWOF is up-to-date. As part of an eWOF, the operation of an RCD is tested to ensure it operates at the correct fault current and within the correct time.
