WM New Zealand

WM New Zealand Let's take care of it 🏘️♻️🚚 Each year we collect over 1,000,000 tonnes of waste and recycle well over 200,000 tonnes.

Waste Management is Aotearoa’s leading materials recovery, recycling and waste management provider, with over 1600 team members across 70 locations. We are the largest composter in New Zealand, the largest waste-to-energy provider and have the largest commercial electric fleet in New Zealand, all powered by electricity from waste. As a team, we are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to redirect, neutralise and use waste.

What happens when community action meets the right support? Real impact. 🌱💪 Across South Auckland, local groups are taking on moth plant — a fast-spreading pest that threatens native ecosystems. With initiatives like the Otara Waterways and Lake Trust competition, volunteers are collecting seed pods and stopping the spread at the source.

WM New Zealand is proud to support this effort by providing secure collection and safe disposal through Living Earth’s composting process — making sure the seeds don’t make their way back into the environment. In just one month, more than 3.3 tonnes have been collected.

WM New Zealand partners with communities to tackle invasive moth plant, providing safe disposal solutions that protect waterways and native ecosystems.

Our teams across New Zealand proudly took part in Pink Shirt Day 2026, wearing pink to stand against bullying and support kindness, inclusion and respect 💗👏

It was great to see teams get involved in different ways — from bright outfits to shared morning teas — all reinforcing the importance of creating workplaces where everyone feels safe, supported and welcome.

At our East Tāmaki site, a pink-themed bake sale raised $677 for the cause — an awesome example of people coming together to make a difference.

⭐🏐 Volunteer of the Month is back for 2026 — and nominations are now open! 🏐⭐

At WM New Zealand, we’re proud to support the people who keep our communities moving — and in netball, that’s the volunteers behind the scenes.

From coaches and umpires to team managers, scorers and sideline supporters, these are the people who show up week in, week out to make it all happen. The Volunteer of the Month Awards are all about recognising that mahi — celebrating those who give their time, energy, and heart to their local netball community.

Affiliated Centres across Aotearoa can nominate outstanding volunteers each month from May through to August. If you know someone making a real difference, now’s the time to give them the recognition they deserve 👉 Submit a nomination here: https://bit.ly/4fesLpN

This week is International Compost Awareness Week 🌱 A chance to recognise the role composting plays in keeping our land healthy — and the systems behind it that make the cycle work.

Across New Zealand, garden waste like lawn clippings, leaves, and prunings is often treated as rubbish. But when it’s collected and composted properly, it becomes a valuable resource that helps rebuild soils, support plant growth, and reduce pressure on landfills.

For more than 30 years, Living Earth — part of the WM New Zealand whānau — has been turning garden waste into high‑quality compost, helping recycle over 2 million tonnes of New Zealand’s organic material. That garden waste goes on to support healthier gardens, productive land, and greener urban spaces, while also helping local councils meet waste‑reduction goals.

We’re proud to support the full journey — from garden clean‑ups to composting — and to work alongside Living Earth to help garden waste end up where it belongs: back in the soil, doing its job.
