Meet Saxon Sowerby, our apprentice builder from Gizzy! With about two years left in his apprenticeship, Saxon has been passionate about building since he was a kid. He loves the vibes at mahi and enjoys working alongside the boys.

When he’s not on-site, Saxon enjoys KFC and cheering for his favourite league team, the Warriors.

Looking ahead, Saxon dreams of moving to Australia to continue building, aiming to make the move within the next five years.

His advice for rangatahi, “Give it a go! There are heaps of options out there—EIT, Toi Ohomai—just jump in and start.”

Te Pae Hākari was engaged by Kainga Ora to reinstate a home severely damaged by a kitchen fire, with damage extending throughout the property. During the process, we also retrofitted the house as part of Kainga Ora’s scheduled upgrades.

The tenant played a key role in redesigning the layout, which included opening up the lounge and dining area, relocating wardrobes, and renovating the toilet and shower, along with completing the fire restoration.

We’re incredibly proud to have helped bring this whānau back to their home, which had been uninhabitable since early 2021. ❤️

Meet Henry Williams, our dedicated Site Manager, born and raised in Gisborne. 🏗️

Henry ensures everything on-site runs smoothly and that every project stays on track.

At TPH, it’s the camaraderie and positive energy from the team that Henry loves most about his mahi. The social aspect, the vibe, and knowing the boys have his back give him confidence every day.

Henry is also keen to explore architectural design, expanding his skills to stay at the top of his game.

A proud Warriors fan, Henry even claims to have started the famous ‘Up The Wahs!’ chant😉

And when it comes to kai, nothing beats a classic chop on the BBQ—simple, delicious, and always a winner.

For any rangatahi interested in the building industry, Henry’s advice is perseverance 💪🏽 come in with a good mindset and keep at it.

Our name, Te Pae Hākari, draws inspiration from the traditional Hākari feasts where communities came together to share resources, food, and knowledge. These gatherings were vital for supporting each other in various endeavors.

For us, Te Pae Hākari embodies an Economy of Mana, a concept promoting broader social benefits, dedicated not only to providing excellent services but also to fostering growth and development among everyone we collaborate with.
