Now that the project has been completed and the site has been livened, we’re excited to share some awesome footage from a few weeks ago at Ruataniwha Substation as the new transformer made its way to its eventual home.

For clients Centralines these crucial upgrades now provide power for more than 9,000 homes in the area, improving long-term resilience for the growing community in Hawke’s Bay.

As civil contractors, we know our work on essential energy and infrastructure projects often disturbs land and environments.

We want to find ways to replenish and revitalise the places we work in, which is why we are very pleased to grow our support of Trees for Survival in 2026/27! Connell is partnering with even more schools this year, helping teach students and youth the importance of replenishing and revitalising our local environment. 🌱

Our first planting day of the year involved students from Kaipara College Helensville, helping to plant native trees and shrubbery along farmland and gullies north of Kumeū.

Supporting local charities in the areas we work in is an important part of giving back to our community. It’s a way for us to help grow resilience, particularly in isolated communities, and make sure our work is just one aspect of improving the lives of locals. 💛🧡

That’s why we’re equal parts proud and stoked to support Taranaki Rescue Helicopter Trust in 2026/27! Joining on as a corporate sponsor will help ensure Taranaki has access to lifesaving care when it’s needed, as well as support an excellent local charity.

Back at Wairau, where we're installing some of the largest precast panels we’ve ever seen!

Weighing in at 18.5 tonnes each and standing tall at 10.5 metres high, they’re certainly big units.

Our Auckland team are currently hard at work building a new switchroom and transformer enclosure for clients Vector Limited in Glen Eden.

With works beginning in early February and slated for completion by August, the team are enjoying the chance to work on Auckland’s bustling urban streets.

Contracts Manager Francios said what made the project particularly exciting was the landscape the team were working on.

“The site, which is located a little further up the hill than the Waikumete Stream, is basically on a 45 degree angle. We had to build up the platform with over two thousand cubic metres of hardfill to level the site for works.”

The team are enjoying the challenge so far, and are excited to help Vector continue to provide energy security to Glen Eden and the wider Auckland area.

A blisteringly cold start to the day for the Connell team working on the Te Rahui Solar Farm in Rangitāiki near Taupo. ❄️

Reports from the team said it reached as low as -4C — so a big thermos of coffee required! ☕
