Members of the Connell team recently joined forces with Trees for Survival and Cambridge East School for a restorative and riparian planting day on local farmland outside of Cambridge, Waipā District. 🌳

Together with an awesome group of students, we helped plant 580 native plants on the day! Our ongoing sponsorship of local schools with Trees for Survival has resulted in thousands of native trees and bushes in Auckland, Taranaki and now Waikato.

An electric vibe ⚡ in the Connell team as Connell Contract Manager Lana Sheerin has been recognised as Electricity Engineers Association Young Engineer of the Year for New Zealand!

She’ll represent New Zealand and the electricity supply industry at the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Young Professionals Programme, an international forum for emerging engineers and engineering managers held in Hamburg later this year.

We are so incredibly proud of Lana as she goes from strength to strength and grows her incredible career!

Now that the project has been completed and the site has been livened, we’re excited to share some awesome footage from a few weeks ago at Ruataniwha Substation as the new transformer made its way to its eventual home.

For clients Centralines these crucial upgrades now provide power for more than 9,000 homes in the area, improving long-term resilience for the growing community in Hawke’s Bay.

As civil contractors, we know our work on essential energy and infrastructure projects often disturbs land and environments.

We want to find ways to replenish and revitalise the places we work in, which is why we are very pleased to grow our support of Trees for Survival in 2026/27! Connell is partnering with even more schools this year, helping teach students and youth the importance of replenishing and revitalising our local environment. 🌱

Our first planting day of the year involved students from Kaipara College Helensville, helping to plant native trees and shrubbery along farmland and gullies north of Kumeū.

Finalists at the Civil Contractors New Zealand – Waikato awards!

We’re deeply proud of Lana, who enters tomorrow’s regional awards night as a well-deserved finalist for Engineer of the Year.

As well as Lana’s incredible achievements, we’re excited to be finalists in Category 2 (projects between $2 million and $5 million).
