Looking back at one of the most significant programmes we’ve delivered to date.

Partnering with Te Puni Kōkiri, Manzis Build helped shape and deliver a flood repair programme across 40 kāinga and 7 communities in Hawke’s Bay.

As a pakihi, this was instrumental in our growth, strengthening our capabilities and the direction we are heading in today.

It was also one of the biggest privileges we've had and was well suited to our team of "people people" who naturally enjoy building relationships and doing their best for the benefit of others.
Proud of our region for being grounded and resilient throughout all these years.

𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗶𝘀

We’re often engaged to deliver projects that don’t require a builder on site. This roof replacement was one of those projects.

Working alongside Ana Apatu, the team at Wharariki Trust, and Te Whatu Ora Child Healthy Housing Team, Manzis was engaged to assess and understand the needs of this whare. We then worked closely with whānau and stakeholders to replace the old leaky roof and spouting with a new system that will protect this whānau asset for years to come.

A good roof is a critical part of protecting your whare, but it also gives the whole property a lift when it’s replaced or maintained well 🏡

Most importantly, the whānau at the centre of this mahi are absolutely wrapped and committed to caring for their new roof.

Arana recently attended a Hawke’s Bay Chamber of Commerce round table with Hon Cameron Brewer, Minister for Small Business and Manufacturing.

She spoke to the room about Manzis being involved in an AI Pilot Programme and how it has supported our business growth.

It was a good chance to share what AI looks like from the inside of a local construction pakihi. Not the big flashy version, the useful version.

For a business like ours, AI only matters if it helps solve real pressure points, which has recently been in administrative productivity and client experience. If you are in the industry, you will know how admin heavy it is.

We’re still of the belief that good projects need good people who are present (and tangable). It still needs care on site, strong communication, tidy planning and proper follow through. AI does not replace that but it is helping make our business behind the project stronger.

It’d be great to see more pakihi in our industry take up these opportunities – we have a case study coming out soon which we look forward to sharing.

A leaking roof. Money paid. Weeks of waiting. Then the awful feeling that something is not right 😵

Stories like this are horrible for the homeowners involved and sometimes we still hear of this happening in our region. They also hurt the good builders who are out there doing the right thing, because they make people nervous about who they can trust.

Fair enough too

Choosing a builder is a big decision. You are handing over serious money, opening up your home, and trusting someone to carry out the job properly.

So here’s our take.

If you are talking to Manzis, we want you to do your due diligence on us.

Ask the questions. Check the details. Look into who you are trusting with your home and your money. A good builder should not be offended by that.

Here are 5 things we would expect you to check before choosing us, or any builder:

1. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱
Not just nice photos. Ask about completed jobs, what was involved, and what the client experience was like. A website page like this helps but you can still ask more about what hasn't made it online https://www.manzisbuild.nz/work/

2. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯
You should know who your main contact is, who is on site, who handles decisions, and how communication works when something changes. At Manzis, you have a team supporting your project but one key contact person who is local and office based.

3. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗮𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱
Contracts, deposits and progress payments should be clear and signed before work starts. You should understand what each payment relates to and what happens before more money changes hands - check your contract for this.

4. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
It is not awkward. It is normal. A proper builder should be able to talk you through the "fine print" around the job and provide you with peace of mind that you're being taken care of. 5. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱
Because most jobs have pressure points. Weather, delays, variations, hidden damage, supplier issues and not every job we delivery is textbook. The real test is how a builder communicates and responds when things are not perfectly smooth. We welcome enquiries for reference checking.

After 20 years on the tools, Jordon has hung the belt up 🔨

We're excited to share that our very own Foreman Jordon has stepped into a new role as our 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿... which is great news for our clients.

He knows building from the ground up. Foreman. Business Owner. Site lead. Project delivery. Client chats. Supplier calls. Subcontractor wrangling. The stuff that actually keeps a job moving.

Over the last while, we found ourselves pulling Jordon into office to help out with pre-construction tasks. Then we realised that our office team were stretched across too many tasks, taking too long, not adding the value we knew we could and then the penny dropped!

We needed someone owning the Pre-Construction process.

So we made it official 🤝

For clients planning a renovation, alteration, extension, reclad or new build, Jordon will now be one of the first people helping you get clear before construction starts. The bonus is that you'll have one contact person! Not being bounced around the office 🎯

𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 🏡

Our accessible extension project is now complete and handed over 🥳

The new purpose built space includes a main bedroom, accessible bathroom, wardrobe, kitchenette and small bedroom. Outside, the ramp and deck help with easier access and connect the extension back to the existing home.

A big achievement for Manzis was completing the works bang on schedule - congrats to our team for managing delays and problems quickly to keep our clients return home at the forefront.

Massive mihi to all of the subcontractors that helped us deliver on time and on budget. Great fun getting to know some new Gizzy people, and of course we're so thankful to our Hawke's Bay subbies who made the trip for us.
