The July issue of NZ Gardener is on sale today!

Winter is time to plant deciduous fruit trees, so Kath Irvine from Edible Backyard shares advice for how to grow more fruit at home, especially when space is tight. We share a wonderful creek-side garden in Haumoana in Hawke’s Bay owned by a landscape designer (Espaso Verde Complete Landscape Services) ... there’s so many ideas in this garden that I want to steal for mine! We also visit an entertainer’s paradise alive with flowers and colour in the bush-clad hills over Akaroa Harbour, and a charming Ranfurly backyard packed with shrubs, perennials, climbers, bulbs and more.

I also had a chance to speak to British gardener Jenny ‘Niff’ Barnes about her (amazing) innovative rose training techniques that turn winter roses into works of art (there’s a step-by-step guide to trying it yourself at home if you are inspired to give it a go).
