ATTENTION PowerNet STAFF
⚡ A Small Thank You for a Big Effort ⚡
To show our appreciation for the incredible work Powernet staff are doing, going above and beyond to restore power after Thursday’s storm, Quality Lighting & Electrical have opened a $500 tab at Make'n Bake, Tay Street, Invercargill.
Feel free to pop in, in your Powernet uniform, grab a coffee & cheese roll, and know how much your hard work means to us. The tab is available until it’s gone!
If anyone would like to contribute to the tab and help extend the love, you're more than welcome to contact Make’n Bake and add to the tab to keep it going.
Thank you for everything you’re doing. 🙌

If your power has been restored and it doesn’t seem quite right, there could be further problems.

Low voltage issues

If your lights are dim or flickering or appliances aren’t getting enough power to run correctly, this can be dangerous. You need to:

• switch off your main switch
• phone our call centre on 0800 808 587 (be aware there will be delays due to the high volume of calls)

Partial power

Customers who have three phase power may find power is on in parts of their property but not in others. This can indicate an issue with one of the phases.

For the quickest solution, we suggest phoning an electrician who can determine if the problem is within your property.

Remember: Although power is being restored, there may still be further outages after it comes back on. Further faults might arise and sometimes power will have to be turned off for repairs to be made.

It’s been a rough day out there and we hope everybody is keeping safe tonight.

Power has been restored in some areas but we know there are many people still without power facing a tough night.
If your power has been restored, it's still possible it could go out again without notice - we're still identifying damage, and the weather isn't entirely done with us yet!

For the safety of our field crews, they will be standing down overnight.

We will also be signing off social media until bright and early tomorrow morning.

If you are without power, turn off appliances at the wall, but leave one light switch on so you know when power is restored.

If you have used candles this evening, make sure they are extinguished before you head to bed – torches are a safer alternative.

If you have got power, fill a flask so you can have your morning coffee – there’s no guarantee there won’t be further outages overnight.

Avoid travel and if you need to be out, be very careful. There will still be power lines and trees on and around roads. Pay attention to any road closures. DO NOT APPROACH any damaged electrical infrastructure - stay away.

We’ll provide an update in the morning and hopefully the weather plays nice so our teams can get more people switched back on!

Remember it’s day light savings tonight, bring on the lighter evenings

⚠️ Storm Disruption Update ⚠️

Stormy weather across the lower South Island has caused widespread power outages across our networks. Our crews have been working hard throughout the day, but due to ongoing weather conditions and the complexity of some faults, some customers may remain without power overnight and into Monday.

Please make plans now in case your power isn’t restored today.

🛠️ We’re prioritising larger faults first, and our teams will be back out tomorrow to continue restoration. Your safety - and theirs - is our top priority.

⚡ Remember: treat all downed lines as live. Power can come back on at any time.

🙏 Thanks for your patience as we work through this.

📞 If you’re without power and haven’t reported it yet, please call us on 0800 808 587.

It’s been a rough night across the region with strong winds and widespread power outages. A huge thank you to the crews out there in tough conditions working hard to restore power — your efforts don’t go unnoticed. 🙏

If you're experiencing an outage, you can stay up to date via PowerNet’s website:

👉 A few quick tips if you're without power:
+For safety, use torches instead of candles for light.
+Keep your fridge/freezer closed as much as possible.
+Unplug sensitive appliances to avoid damage when the power returns.
+Check on neighbours, especially those who may need extra support.

If you rely on electricity for medical needs, ensure your backup plan is in place. Contact your power company. In an emergency situation, dial 111 for help.
