* Gas Fitter / Drainlayer
* Plumbing Foreman
About the Plumbing Role
As a Plumber at Baxter & Neilson, you’ll never be stuck doing the same thing every day. Our work is varied and interesting — from residential maintenance and renovations to commercial and industrial jobs, roofing projects, and so much more. You’ll be part of a team that takes pride in tackling a wide range of challenges while delivering the quality workmanship we’re known for.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Plumbing: Installing, maintaining, and repairing water supply systems, hot water cylinders, fixtures, and appliances.
* Gas fitting: Installing, commissioning, and servicing gas piping systems and appliances safely and in line with compliance standards.
* Drainlaying: Installing and repairing stormwater and wastewater drainage systems to meet building code requirements.
* Roofing: Carrying out roofing and spouting work, including flashings, gutters, downpipes, and roof cladding for watertight finishes.
* Handling a wide variety of maintenance, renovation, commercial, and industrial projects across Southland.
* Working to Baxter & Neilson’s high-quality standards on every project.
About You:
* Fully qualified plumber with current NZ registration (gasfitting and/or drainlaying registration an advantage).
* Reliable, punctual, and proud of your workmanship.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Physically fit and confident working at heights and in confined spaces.
* Full NZ driver’s licence required.
About the Plumbing Foreman Role
As a Plumbing Foreman, you’ll play a key leadership role in delivering our projects. You’ll oversee site operations across plumbing, gas fitting, drainlaying, and roofing work — managing your team, liaising with clients and contractors, and ensuring all work is completed safely, on time, and to the highest standard.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Leading and supervising a team of plumbers, apprentices, and subcontractors on site.
* Overseeing plumbing, gas fitting, drainlaying, and roofing projects across residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
* Coordinating daily schedules, delegating tasks, and ensuring efficient use of labour and materials.
* Reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and job documentation.
* Monitoring progress, identifying issues, and implementing solutions to keep jobs on track.
* Quoting and pricing work accurately, with clear communication to clients.
* Acting as the main point of contact for clients, contractors, and suppliers.
* Mentoring and training apprentices and junior staff to support their career development.
About You:
* NZ-registered plumber (gasfitting and/or drainlaying registration preferred).
* Proven leadership experience in a foreman or senior trades role.
* Strong technical knowledge across plumbing systems, gas fitting, drainage, and roofing.
* Organised and proactive with excellent problem-solving skills.
* Confident communicator who can build strong relationships with clients, team members, and contractors.
* Committed to health & safety and high-quality workmanship.
* Full NZ driver’s licence.
