We're proud to recognise two significant long-service milestones within the Allied Concrete Dunedin team.

Rex Young is celebrating 35 years of service, having contributed across a range of roles including dispatcher, batcher and driver. Known for his practical approach, experience and willingness to help others, Rex has made a lasting contribution to the business. One of the most notable moments during his career was performing CPR on a colleague who had collapsed in the batch room, helping save their life.

Geoffrey Flintoff is celebrating 20 years of service. Throughout his career, Geoff has worked as a batcher, tester and driver, becoming known for his positive attitude, sense of humour and willingness to share his knowledge with others. His pride in his work was recognised in 2017 when he received the Best DAF award at the Blossom Festival.

Together, Rex and Geoff represent 55 years of dedication, experience and commitment to Allied Concrete and our customers.

Congratulations, Rex and Geoff, and thank you both for your dedication, hard work and contribution to Allied Concrete. Reaching 35 and 20 years of service is an incredible achievement. 👏🎉

45 years of service is an achievement few people reach, and for those who have worked alongside Gary Hanser, it's no surprise.

To celebrate this milestone, Regional General Manager Mike Smith reflected on Gary's contribution and the impact he has had over the past four and a half decades:

"Gary Hanser has contributed immensely—not just to Allied Concrete, but to the concrete industry across Christchurch as a whole. Over 45 years, he has built a reputation grounded in honesty, reliability, and approachability, earning the respect of customers throughout the region.

From my own experience over 15 years as a pesky concrete placer, I was constantly ringing Gary, trying to squeeze in orders or reshuffle pours at the last minute. He never said “no” until every possible avenue had been exhausted. And if it couldn’t be done, Gary would always come back with a practical alternative. That level of commitment built genuine trust, when Gary gave you an answer, you knew it was the reality.

My transition from placing into operations and sales was made far easier because of Gary. Even under pressure, Gary carried a self-deprecating humour that wasn’t a flaw, but a strength, reflecting, humility, emotional intelligence, and above all, resilience. Whether it was a tough day on-site, in the office or Burnside Rugby falling short in a final, or even taking a hiding by 100 points, his infectious work ethic never wavered.

Gary, you’ve still got plenty left in you in the concrete game. The hundreds of customers and colleagues you’ve worked with thank you for 45 years dedicated to the craft of true customer service.

Gary you’re one of the good ones."

Congratulations to Jericho Agbayani on being named HW Richardson Group Driver of the Month for May 👏

Based in Auckland, Jericho has been part of the Allied Concrete team for more than eight years and is known for his professionalism, positive attitude, and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed. His strong focus on safety, presentation, and driving performance makes him a great representative of both Allied Concrete and the wider HWR Group.

A well-deserved recognition for a valued member of our team. Thanks for everything you do, Jericho.

Big pours, early starts, and serious teamwork 💪

Our Timaru team is currently working across three massive Rooney Earthmoving shed floors simultaneously, each with a minimum capacity of roughly 1,250m³, with another two sheds still to come, including one expected to reach around 5,000m³.

To help deliver these pours safely and efficiently, we’ve had fantastic support from our Ashburton and Dunedin teams, alongside different placers, pumpers, and builders across each shed. With 3am-6am starts, coordinating large pours while still servicing everyday customer work has been no small task.

For our Timaru plant, this has been one of the biggest production pushes they’ve taken on this year, and it’s been a real team effort from everyone involved.
