Did you know street lighting networks aren’t always fed from a single source?

Circuits can span multiple transformers and supply points, which makes accurate mapping and planning essential - especially when isolating faults or upgrading infrastructure.

Visibility and data accuracy directly support safer, faster field operations.

ENO compliance ensures electrical infrastructure meets the safety, technical and operational standards required by the local Electricity Network Owner.

It’s not just paperwork - it’s about protecting people, maintaining network integrity and ensuring systems operate safely and reliably.

At NES, compliance is built into every stage of our work.

We’re proud to be delivering a major power supply upgrade at Peace Haven in Invercargill.

As part of a large-scale redevelopment, our team is removing legacy infrastructure and installing a completely new, future-ready electrical network across 38 villas and a new community centre.

The scope includes a new main switchboard, upgraded pillar boxes, and new street lighting throughout the site - ensuring safer, more reliable power for residents for decades to come.

This is our second project with Maxis Projects, who hand-selected NES for the supply-side contract - a reflection of the trust and capability within our team.

It’s a rewarding project with real community impact, and we’re proud to play our part.

Power reticulation is the network that distributes electricity from the main supply to homes, businesses and infrastructure.

It includes underground cables, overhead lines, transformers and connection points - all designed to deliver safe, reliable power where it’s needed. Proper planning and installation are critical to ensuring long-term performance and future capacity.

Traditionally, streetlight circuit information was stored in paper-based maps, making it time-consuming for field crews to quickly locate critical infrastructure.

We saw an opportunity to modernise the process.

With our STOP GIS system, we’ve converted legacy paper records into a detailed, easy-to-use GIS platform. Our field teams can now clearly view streetlight circuits, identify circuit turn-on points for safe isolation, and see which transformers supply individual circuits across the SDC, ICC and CDC networks.

By integrating seamlessly with existing asset management systems, including AWM (RAMM), we’re ensuring accurate data sharing, supporting ENO compliance requirements, and enabling more informed decision-making on site.

The result is a safer, faster and more connected approach to streetlight asset management.

As we look ahead to new projects in 2026, we’re taking a moment to reflect on some of the great work the NES team delivered throughout 2025.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a selection of projects that showcase the systems, solutions and expertise behind the scenes — and the people who make it happen.

First up - STOP GIS

NES has developed the Streetlight Turn On Point (STOP) GIS system, modernising how streetlight circuits are managed across the SDC, ICC and CDC regions.

By converting paper-based maps into a clear GIS platform, crews can quickly identify circuit turn-on points, transformers and assets in the field — improving safety, reducing response times and supporting ENO compliance.

Smarter systems. Safer work. Better outcomes for our communities.

Our Network Electrical Servicing (NES) Team has developed the Streetlight Turn On Point (STOP) GIS system, a significant step forward in how streetlight circuits are managed, maintained and understood across the region.

This week, one of our crews headed up to Te Anau to help decorate the iconic town center pine tree. They definitely brought some Christmas spirit with them, and we’re proud to play a small part in supporting the community.

From all of us here at NES, we wish you a very Merry Christmas. We hope Santa treats you well, and don’t forget to slip, slop, slap, and wrap this summer!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Storms happen, Power Cuts don't have to.

After Southland’s wild weather, many are looking for a better backup solution. A battery system is an excellent alternative to a generator, storing energy for when you need it most, without the noise or fuel.

Add solar panels, and you become truly self-sufficient - generating your own power and storing the excess for night-time or outages.

Reliable, quiet, and ready for anything.

Talk to Ernest Energy about how to keep your home powered through every season.

Yesterday a few members of the Ernest and NES team had the privilege of introducing to a group of local accountants the exciting new renewable energy technology Ernest Energy is bringing to New Zealand. The discussion sparked a great deal of interest and positive engagement from those in the room.
Our smart, scalable solar storage systems are designed to give farmers and businesses greater control over their energy use, cutting costs, boosting resilience, and supporting sustainability goals.

We’re excited to continue the conversation and show how our innovative solar and battery systems can transform the way we manage energy.
