I grew these last season and apparently this one decided it was staying behind.

One of my favourite plants to grow — you start with a seed, grow what basically looks like a giant cucumber, and eventually end up with a completely natural sponge.

Plants are so cool.

Reef’s sunflowers are popping up!

A little while ago Reef planted his first batch of sunflower seeds, with the plan to grow them himself and sell the flowers at the Kaitaia Market over summer.

And look — they’re up! 🌻

We’re going to keep sowing another batch every couple of weeks so hopefully by summer he’ll have a steady supply of beautiful sunflowers to take along to market.

There’s something pretty special about watching a little idea start with a handful of seeds and grow from there.
