Have you heard of the The National Environmental Standards for Plantation Forestry that were brought in May 2018?

The NESPF standards mean that to harvest your block, over 1HA in size, extensive planning and paperwork needs to be undertaken to address and minimize the environmental impacts harvesting may have. This plan needs to be submitted to the regional authorities before your harvest. There are also site visits by Council Contractors along with post harvest works generally required.

There are heavy penalties for not adhering to or planning for the environmental impacts of your harvest so its extremely important to work with a harvesting company who understand these and will work with you on your obligations along with adhering to theirs.

The good news is that Bowman Contracting are one of these companies! Give the team a call to discuss your woodlot and partner together to ensure you are not only getting the best return on your investment but also are crossing the T's and dotting the I's in terms of the NESPF requirements.

Has everyone out there heard of the Forests (Regulation of Log Traders and Forestry Advisers) Amendment Bill?

Its a terrible amendment they are trying to push through parliament at the moment with submissions only open for 4 working days - it's beyond a joke! As an industry who was hit first by covid, not in march like most but all the way back in January this unjustified rushed action through parliament is a kick in the guts.

This has the potential to derail much of the non commercial scale blocks in the industry and have huge impacts on those investments made by iwi and smaller woodlot growers who are our key customers.
