🚧 Big things happening in Horowhenua!
We’re excited to be a part of the new Ōtaki to north of Levin four-lane highway project – one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades in the region.
This new road will not only improve safety and resilience but also create better connections for our communities across the Lower North Island.
As always, while we’re proud to play our role in major projects like this, don’t hesitate to sing out if you need any surveying work done – big or small, we’re here to help.
We've officially started building Ōtaki to north of Levin, the new 24-kilometre highway that'll massively improve safety and make travel more efficient.
The new four-lane road we're building, a Road of National Significance, will stretch from Taylors Road in Ōtaki to just north of Levin.
In the past five years 70 people have died or been seriously injured along the current route, making it one of the country’s most dangerous sections of road. Along with being safer, our new highway will improve the route's resilience, and we'll also be providing better access to walking and cycling paths for people moving around or through the Horowhenua District and lower North Island.

This month you'll see a lot of activity as workers begin major earthworks. They'll also start setting up stormwater and drainage, clearing vegetation, and continuing other smaller work to establish the site such as installing fencing and removing houses.
People travelling will notice temporary speed restrictions on SH1, SH57, and nearby roads where workers are using construction vehicles. There'll also be temporary traffic lights at several haul road crossings to allow everyone to move around safely.
We expect to open Ōtaki to north of Levin by the end of 2029.
